safest bank here (in the event of economic collapse)??
What do you reckon would be the safest bank in Cambodia (for having money deposited in) in the event that the economy collapsed?
It’s a meaningless question. What do you mean by ‘economic collapse’? What if the economy booms but a bank collapses?
You can’t expect a precise answer to such a vague question. Too many variables.

Probably one of the multinationals that would sort something out to protect their global reputation. Eg BOC, ANZ, CIMB, HSBC.

How much are we talking.
Lets say you got usd100k
Put usd10k in 10 different banks.
When the first one topples, get the other usd90k out pronto.

Got to be some good deals in property coming up if we go into another global lockdown.
Only problem is asking yourself how safe in ones job right now? Location etc.
Not much job security right now.

Yes, just be patient and put your money in real estate, but the one you can actually live in, not the Ponzi scheme of the new "soon" to be built boreys/apartments
As far as banks go, I would trust a Chinese backed one, over the crippled Western backed ones, which will suck the last drop of dollar if economy collapses (*hint* ABA with National Bank of Canada *hint)

Any multi-national would be your safest bet.

Define multinational. If you mean banks with an operational presence around the world I can’t think of many in Cambodia.
If you mean banks with a stake held by an international company, that is pretty much every bank you can see, including the MFIs.
If you mean banks with an international brand, then buyer beware. Even ANZ no longer has any times to the ANZ bank in Australia.

Banks with an operational presence in another country probably would fit well - not some two-bit "international" registered in the Cayman Islands.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 1:39 pm

Examples would be Hong Leong, Maybank, CIMB from Malaysia; Kookmin & Woori from Korea, etc.
* ANZ doesn't even exist in market, its share was bought out by JTrust (Japan) way back - I don't think anyone could have missed it or confuse the old ANZ Royal with JTrust Royal.

Why keep more than let's say $10,000 in a Cambodian bank for living expenses? And everything else in a world-class bank in a major financial hub?
'cause you can still get nearly 8%, paid monthly.
