The recommended method per Wise (impractical in these days I'd have thought) is
* The recipient in Cambodia opens a Wise account using standard Wise methods of verification
* Once open, ask Wise to post one of their Debit Mastercard to the recipient in Cambodia
* Someone external to Cambodia deposits funds in the Wise account
* Cambodian recipient withdraws funds using Wise Mastercard
I hope this hyperlink passes the Mods' scrutiny. They suggest the same procedure for Laos

That would likely work, but the ATM withdrawal limits and fees will hit you.
That's if wise allows accounts being opened with a Cambodia address - I used my UK address.
I've found it better to transfer to a local account. Though a poster on last page vaguely says ABA no longer allows Wise transfers. I'd be fairly confident that it will still work though.
RobW have you tested it yet for incoming transfers?

I haven't, but I saw on Kampot noticeboard a few people having trouble and saying ABA and Wise were no longer playing together.
Can’t be done. You need an address in the country in which you’re trying to set up the account.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 2:31 pm

It may be an incredibly convenient service but it remains a bank, subject to the usual banking regulations.

I set up my wise account as UK domiciled with a UK address. I did this whilst in Cambodia with no problems.
But if someone tried to open a Wise account from here with a Cambodia address, would it work?
No.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 6:11 pmGuest wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 5:22 pmCan’t be done. You need an address in the country in which you’re trying to set up the account.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 2:31 pm

According to the link I provided for opening an account from Cambodia: "Like any other online service, opening an account and acquiring the Prepaid Mastercard through Wise is a process carried out online; no paperwork required. It only requires the client to upload an ID (Passport or Identity Document) and proof of address"
I opened a Transferwise account from here with my address in the United States. Everything worked fine. It is a nice app, very up to date with the design and features. I tried to transfer money to my ABA account and it was returned yesterday . I'll try my Canadia account instead now.

I think the problem might with the intermediary bank.
ABA have just announced a promotion on swift transfers but they have stated that transfers from other countries must go through specific intermediaries.
I have written to wise to ask them if there is some way to specify the intermediary used.
I guess this is only a blip and will be fixed soon.
I'll post the wise response here when received.

For this, you need to know the Wise account number at one of the intermediate banks and transfer the money to that account, with as a description, the Wise account + name + description where Wise should deposit the money.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 10:56 amI think the problem might with the intermediary bank.

That is how it worked a long time ago (and it still works). It gives you the opportunity to bypass expensive intermediate banks.
Oops, the opposite around, you need to know the ABA account number at the Intermediate bank(s) and transfer there from your wise account.

From wise
If it fails then I'll contact them and ask them to investigate the reason.
I set up a small test transfer yesterday, it normally takes 24 hours or so during working days, but might take longer at weekends. If successful, then it should appear in my account some time today or Monday.Unfortunately we don't have explicit control over payment routes and which intermediary banks SWIFT transfers proceed through to their destination. This is up to our partner banking institutions and not something we can influence....
....We also don't know which intermediary banks transfers go through for a given route. The route taken is reliant upon our partner banks and the SWIFT network. Which banks these transfers proceed through is not reported to us.

Good idea. I will do the same.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 7:56 amFrom wiseI set up a small test transfer yesterday, it normally takes 24 hours or so during working days, but might take longer at weekends.
