Banking!
Thanks to everyone who has mentioned ABA it seems like the bank of choice for expats in Cambodia.
My intent is to keep my wealth in the UK and not transfer everything to Cambodia, however I have some questions?
1. What is the average transfer time for say £5k to ABA for cleared funds to be available? This is from a private bank which uses a UK clearing bank usually a 1hr service but I realise this may vary once outside of mainland europe/USA
2. If you use credit cards do stores apply any kind of charge?
3. Standing orders/Direct Debits for rent etc is there a delay or will I have to factor in a couple of days so the landlord gets the rent on its due date.

1. It normally takes me 2-3 business days. To avoid hassle, easy to set up a Ria transfer account and withdraw from ABA. ABA charge $10 fee for any incoming monies.MarkinAston wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 4:21 amThanks to everyone who has mentioned ABA it seems like the bank of choice for expats in Cambodia.

2. Haven't seen a CC for ages, until few days ago when some elderly Korean insisted on "Visa carrr" infront of me at Lucky. They just pulled out the machine and did it. Most places prefer phone app scanning. Guess the charges would depend on your bank, but ABA offer a Visa Debit card as standard.
3. Never heard of SO/DD here (not that I'm not saying they don't exist- unsure), just transfer the cash from the phone app on the appropiate day or before, utilities accept cash, transfer or Wing payments.
Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.

Standing orders can be set up via the ABA app. For max of 1 year validity.
Direct debits don’t exist as far as I am aware.

Thats good I wasn't holding out for DD instructions but standing orders will be a great help as my memory is shot
I transfer money using AUDSmart.
No bank commission or transfer fees.
They deposit the funds into my Acleda bank a/c within 24 hrs of me authorizing the payment.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Not sure what you are trying to say/comment upon.Dedalus wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 12:38 pmWhy you do you will see that AuDsmsrt is only for sending money from Australia. Not for the first time, scoffer has helpfully provided an answer to a question that wasn’t asked.
AUDSmart is a multi currency exchange facilitator.
They service my needs and I'm comfortable with suggesting they might service other posters needs.
It's up to them if they choose to follow up my suggestion.

Of course they suit your needs. They are an Australian company sending AUD to many other countries. Which is exactly what you need.scoffer wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 1:23 pmNot sure what you are trying to say/comment upon.Dedalus wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 12:38 pmWhy you do you will see that AuDsmsrt is only for sending money from Australia. They do not have the facility to transfer U.K. Sterling to Cambodia. Which is what Mark needs. They have no license to operate in the U.K.
The front page of their website says:
“AUDSmart is one of the perfect solutions for you if you have been searching an online platform to transfer money from Australia to UK, USA, Philippines or other overseas countries. At AUDSmart, we provide you with fast, easy, secure, reliable & trustworthy remittance services. Register here & transfer your money now!”
From Australia . .
There are many solutions to Mark’s question. Regular banking transfers, Wise, Monzo, XE etc. AUDsmart is not one of them.
Dedalus,
I note that your ability to communicate in English has suddenly improved.
Which confuses me as to why your original post was such a mish mash of broken English and shitty grammar.
Were you trolling the site with your original reply ???
However, I offered an option that may or may not suit the OP's question.
As to why you chose to aggressively protest my suggestion is up to you.

Typo scoffer old boy. Quite common when posting on a phone.
First word ‘why’ should have been ‘when’. The it makes perfect sense.
It’s not trolling to point out that your solution to Mark is not a solution, for reasons already explained. Instead I’ve given the OP some options which DO address his issue.
Carry on.

They've got to make a quid somewhere, so I'd guess their exchange rates aren't so good, something much easier to disguise.
For me Wise does the job with guaranteed and very good exchange rate and fixed transaction fees.
Lately I've been doing more outward transactions and from ABA to Wise USD account is a matter of a few hours during the week. Avoid weekend transactions for speed - bit of a joke as there isn't some old lady writing out credit notes in the exchange office.

It seems like its going to be a case of trial and error until i get a balance of transfer times, rate, ease of use.RobW wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 5:06 pmThey've got to make a quid somewhere, so I'd guess their exchange rates aren't so good, something much easier to disguise.
