What to do with a sick kid ?
Hey guys, I need some advice,
I'm sponsoring a Cambodian child, putting her through school. She lives in a slum in Tonle Bassac area,
for the past few weeks she's been telling me that she is sick.
I don't see anything wrong with her, it's been on and off, but I don't give her any money for it, and she still says she's sick, so at
this point she's not doing it to get money from me.
I'm really worried now, that she needs to be checked out.
However, I don't have the funds for a 30 dollar exam + lab tests, and
I don't trust any of the doctors that her family would take me to. She said something about a doctor telling her it would cost 100 dollars.
I heard there's the Kantha Bopha children's hospital for free, but I also heard you have to wait in line for hours? Has anyone been through that?
Would they be able to tell me in English what's wrong? I have a background in health care but I can't communicate with them because of the language barrier.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

@jonnopfc Haha you're a funny guy. guess you never had hard times. Lucky man ! I'm still doing a lot to help her, how about you ? Helping any desperately poor kids have a better life ?

@jonnopfc Okay that's cool then. Like I said she's not acutely ill, but I want to get her checked out. If there's a trustworthy pediatrician someone can recommend I can pay the 30-60 dollars, I just don't really trust these clinics that I've seen here.
If I take her to Kantha Bopha will they tell me in English what's wrong with her ? Or give some written document ?

Yeah I understood the part about not letting me in. But will they tell me what's wrong if I go with her ? LIke I said I have a background in health care, so if she really has a problem
I need to know what it is, so I can help her. It would suck if they didn't tell me, and I took her there and had no clue what happened afterward.
And yeah I know it could be a shakedown I'm not dumb. but on the one hand you're telling me it's a shakedown on the other you're telling me I would feel really guilty if she died,
so I think you understand my situation here.

@jonnopfc Dude you seriously have a problem minding your own business. I didn't open this thread for you to make comments on my financial situation, which you have no fucking clue about.
I spend about 100-200 dollars a month on her already, instead of spending it on whores and getting drunk. Assumption is the father of stupidity. The reason I wrote I don't have 30 dollars for a doctor is because I'm afraid of a shakedown like you and others have said here, the 30 dollars could easily become 300. If someone can recommend a good doctor I can pay for it.

Easiest way to be sure would be to send her to see Dr. Nadia at MW Medical, prepay the $20 consult when making the appointment and explain the situation to Dr Nadia she can communicate with you if more tests are needed. Patient/doctor confidentiality might make this difficult, as you really have no right to any information, but if approval to go ahead with more tests depends on your wallet, I'm sure they'd inform you of the type of tests and would only do them if you approved.

Others have asked you before to play nice, now I am telling you to do so.jonnopfc wrote:Don't ask for advice and then whine like a bitch when it's given, you motherless fuck.
First off, it was you that mentioned your financial situation...
I don't have the funds for a 30 dollar exam and asked if I'd ever fallen on hard times, the implication clearly being that you have. Then you ask a question, I reply reasonably, and you turn into a spastic and are suddenly flush with cash again... What's your background in the medical profession? Mental patient?

Hi, I'd strongly recommend Angkor Hospital for Children. They allow foreigners, and the staff do speak English.
I'm pretty against Kantha Bopha, had a very bad experience there. i honestly wonder what do they have to hide, they get so much donations from foreigners, but refused to allow any foreigners in.

Hope is great, the one on street 242 or thereabouts. $20 consult but they may hit you up a little on the medication. Khmer pediatrician there who I trust the little Boscos with now.

You were actually in the right until you started in with the vulgar personal insults, which you do far too often and you've been warned about before. I actually think you're capable of being funny and insightful, and it disappoints me that we are probably going to have to permanently ban you in about 4 or 5 days given your chronic inability to act like a civilized person. You can poke fun at other posters, or argue with other posters, but personal name calling like motherless fuck, skidmark, etc. will not be tolerated.jonnopfc wrote:OK, I take back the ''motherless fuck" comment, I was watching Sopranos last night and it comes across better when Junior Soprano says it. But where else have I been unreasonable on this thread?
