sihanoukville hospital.
sihanoukville hospital.
Is this place an option for the birth of our baby, the place scares me to death, i've suggested that she should look at hospitals in pp but all i get is the no problem bs, but it seems to me the doctors dont give a shit as long as they get there $10, twice they've gave her tablets for no apparent reason other than to sell something or so it seems to me. i should point out that i'm in england at the moment, i will be back in cambo late jan, babys due in feb. i understand that she wants to be around her family and that all the kids in her family have been born in this hospital with no problems but the place looks the pits to me. i have researched pp hospitals on the web and on here and they look a million times better, but before i get out there and upset the whole family by insisting that we go pp, i want to be sure i'm right about the place, so i was wondering if anyone knows anything about this hospital, am i right to be concerned or am i overacting. any info would be much appreciated thanks david.

don't go to a hospital in s'ville for anything serious...
granted, childbirth is a simple thing a lot of times... but still not something you should risk in my opinion. if there were any complications i wouldn't trust that they'd have any clue how to deal with them and wouldn't just keep shoving paracetamol in her mouth and rubbing tiger balm on her belly.
there's a reason the infant mortality rate is so high in Cambodia...

Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

cheers OD, figured this to be the case, just wasn't 100% sure if i was being a bit dramatic or not, pretty sure i'd have sussed it out once i went to the hospital and had a look for myself, but having a second opinion saves me the time and aggravation of messing about in sihanoukville. PP full steam ahead.
There are some really good maternity clinics in PP. The one we used charges about four or five hundred all in for a standard room..............and about seven or eight hundred all in with a VIP room, which is two adjacent equipped rooms.
A doctor friend told me that if there are no complications.........all you need is a catcher's mitt. However, I can fully understand your concern.
There is supposed to be a wonderful new hospital in Kampot. Might be worth a look.
Best of luck, and try not to worry too much. Khmer girls are pretty good at giving birth.

there is a 'expats and locals living in sihanoukville' facebook group - I suggest you join that and ask your question as I have in the past seen some good reports about some of the local places by people that have first hand experience. I think there might even be another group for parents as well.

thanks for the reply's it's much appreciated, with the exception of cambod that is who prefers to be a knob.
i've been checking out maternity hospitals in PP there's a pretty wide selection to choose from, which one did you and your misses go with, i've looked at kampot the only one i can find is the sonja kill childrens hospital terrible name but that aside it looks a good hospital although i'm not sure it has a maternity ward there.LoneStar wrote:There are some really good maternity clinics in PP. If you get a VIP suite in a hospital/clinic there's no problem with some of the family staying around. Phnom Penh is not that far from Sihanoukville but then obviously it might be a bit far to travel for her if she suddenly goes into labor, so she might want to stick around the capital for a bit before the kid is due.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
No prob brotha, good luck!dlh wrote:thanks for the reply's it's much appreciated, with the exception of cambod that is who prefers to be a knob.
this is the way i'm gonna go, when i get to cambo i'll check out some hospitals, from what i've read on here and the internet research i've done looks like calmette is a good choice, see what she thinks, then stay in PP the week or so before the baby is due, from past experience the dates are usually not far of the mark. Nice one LL.Lucky Lucan wrote:If you get a VIP suite in a hospital/clinic there's no problem with some of the family staying around.
