Best Hospital
Best Hospital
Anyone recommend the best hospital in pp, my girlfriends sister (khmer) has "water on her brain" and requires an operation to have it drained (a shunt). The hospital in pp she is in at the moment reckons they can do it but i am very skeptical.

I think Royal Phnom Penh Hospital out towards the airport is considered the best.

I was at Royal's sister hospital in BKK Samitivej a while back, they noticed that I was living in CMB, and the doctors were saying that they were having a hard time finding qualified docs to staff it. Nobody wanted to leave Thailand for PP despite the high salary offered and lower cost of living.

^^^^^ Yup, me too. IME, most Thais hate leaving Thailand for any length of time though. Plus they really look down on Cambodia.
K thanks, Dose anyone know if there are any active western medical charities or NGO Organizations based in pp that can offer advise or help, The doctors seems clueless in deciding if it is necessary if under go the brain operation and the details of the problem.
Thanks

There's the Kitahara Japanese clinic in Toul Kork 10AE1, St. 570, Sangkat Bangkok 2, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh.
Kitahara Neurosurgical Institute Group operates four institutions in Japan, which all provide high quality, safe, and up-to-date medical service. KITAHARA NEUROSURGICAL INSTITUTE, PHNOM PENH is a newly opened clinic in Cambodia, as a group of KNI. Our clinic provides sophisticated medical service in Phnom Penh. http://kni-pp.com/en/about-us.html
Kitahara Japan Clinic, which is the clinic operated by Kitahara Neurosurgical Institute Phnom Penh, was opened on December 1, 2012, aiming to provide cambodian high quality medical services. We specialized with Neurology, and Neurosurgery and medical Consultation and Rehabilitation are offered by Japanese well-experienced staffs with reasonable prices. (I think they also offer the option of surgery in Japan)

They are also building a hospital in Chroy Changvar which supposed to open this year, but have not heard any details on progress.
Construction on $35 Million Hospital Set to Begin in April
Ms. Nakayama said the hospital, which is part of the larger Japan-based Kitahara International Hospital group, will be built in the city’s Chroy Changva commune, across the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge, and will cost about $35 million.
The hospital will offer emergency services, neurosurgery, general medicine and medical checkups, Ms. Nakayama said.
She added that the hospital will help train local staff in modern medicine.
“What we are trying to do here is not only to establish a hospital but also to train the local medical professionals and try to raise the medical [competency] of the country,” she said.
“Japanese doctors and other medical staff will be dispatched in the beginning, but we are sure that we need to train Cambodians to sustain international medical standards. We will emphasize medical education before and after the establishment of the hospital,” she continued.

Agreed. Get to Bangkok. Or, go to Pattaya. The Bangkok Hospital Pattaya (branch of the parent hospital in BKK) specializes in neurology. Don't know their reputation specifically in this but acquaintances speak well of the place for all kinds of things. Though a bit pricy. Pattaya is cheaper to stay long-term than Bangkok.wackyjacky wrote:"Brain operation" ??? Get your ass to Bangkok or better yet your home country.

I live here for the moment. I've had very good care at Pattaya International Hospital too, though not for brain issues.

Already given some recommendations for Phnom Penh, but here's a bit of background information on Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) regarding cause and treatment which might be of interest, if you are not already aware of treatment procedures.dave99 wrote:Anyone recommend the best hospital in pp, my girlfriends sister (khmer) has "water on her brain" and requires an operation to have it drained (a shunt).
