I put my back out years ago and like you couldn't bend down in the morning to put my boots on. Gradually got better. I think what happens is that other muscles start to do the job of the lower back, so IF it is a muscle in your back you've pulled and not a spine issue, then for example, your hamstrings will start to tighten up to take the load off your back. I believe they call it ''protective tension''. The bodies way of adapting i guess. Maybe you pulled the QL muscle.
I would try to look into why you pulled your back in the first place as it could be due to tight hips...piriformis, hip flexors, quads, adductors etc. If the waist band on your pants points downward on a side view then it may be a sign that you have an anterior pelvic tilt and that the muscles above are tight. I feel like i'm making some progress with my back and knees due to my girlfriend walking up and down my quads, and on the sides of my legs and hips and ass. Fugging agony though (which is a sign i need it i reckon...trigger points). Only recommended with <50kg ladies i reckon. I don't feel anything when she walks up my hamstrings.
Also poke my fingers inside the front crest of my pelvis as there's a hip flexor in there aswell. I do a load of stretching aswell.
What tilt did you have before you put your back out? People with APT usually have a little bit of a pot belly even if they are skinny, as the pelvis is tipping forward.

Careful with anti-inflammatory drugs. I have had tinnitus (ringing in ears) since I took one standard dosage of Voltarin 5 years ago.
My advice, stay in bed for the day, call a friend or someone you know well enough to bring you some food, drinks and a painkiller, and see a decent GP tomorrow. All the 'docs' providing you with advise on this forum do this from their own experience, not from applying broad medical knowledge. Do not go for a massage before a doctor has diagnosed your problem.
Don't take any medication yet, other than paracetamol or ibuprofen. In case you have an inflammation (which is still a question) these drugs will have some anti inflammatory effect - esp ibuprofen. In case it's another problem (flip disc, nerve problem) these won't do any harm. If you're afraid there's an internal bleeding do NOT take ibuprofen since it makes your blood thinner.
In the mean time, try to move your body a little bit as far as it allows you to, don't allow pain when moving that's exceeding pain levels of 3-4 on the scale of 10.
Good luck,

Fair point. Could be anything i guess - degenerated discs, spinal problem , in which case massage or stretching other muscles could make it worse i guess.Kachang wrote:All the 'docs' providing you with advise on this forum do this from their own experience, not from applying broad medical knowledge.
Although i also agree with Ricecakes in that there are alot of quacks around, so not a bad idea to try and learn about what might have caused the problem in the first place.

I had a similar problem with a twisted muscle in my upper back, I was in absolute agony for a couple of weeks.nightmare.believer wrote:I somehow tweaked my back this morning and it has gotten progressive worse up to the point where I can barely get out of bed and with significant pAin. If my back gets worse, where do you think I should go? A good hospital or clinic? I can barely bend my back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Voltaren tablets fixed it.
Paracetamol and Codeine tabs were also recommended as an alternative.

If you need it so badly I can bring you a dozen pills of Italian imported urbason metilprednisolone. Its the most potent antiinflammatory I have at home. But if it is so serious you should call an ambulance honestly...
As much as you'd like to suppress the pain as much as you can, I strongly recommend you not to use painkillers / NSAIDS that are very strong before you're diagnosed and you know what your problem is. Pain is a signal of your body to tell you somethings wrong, it's also an effective means of feedback to prevent you from worsening the situation by limiting your movements. If you take really strong painkillers like codeine there's a change your problem gets worse because you might put stress on body parts that can not handle it at the moment. Besides, strong stuff like codeine / NSAIDS / Voltaren can have strong side effects too, something you don't need in your current situation.
Take a normal painkiller until you're diagnosed by a good doc, not a quack. Until then, take it easy, also with the medication you take.
Finally, have someone coming over, it'll reduce your stress level significantly to have someone around you.
Take care.

Agree with the previous comments about being careful with the stronger painkillers, possible that they might mask an injury - lack of pain may lead to overuse of something that's maybe damaged.
Low end painkillers and gentle movement are the ones for me.
If you think it's going to get to the point your being totally immobile and helpless, got to try to stay a step ahead and find help first - your call on that one.

Some great help here. Thank you. Please keep it coming.
After the stretches that Horace suggested, my back loosened up a lot. I was able to make it to a pharmacy on foot. I have decided on two 500mg Tylenol every four to six hours, continue the stretching, hot showers, and rest. I will try to walk around as well. The poster who posted the picture of the pelvic tilt, it looks like that now, but I am sure it didn't look that way before yesterday.

It's a thread about Health and Fitness. It stays here so that others looking for similar advice in the future know are more likely to find it.
It is still in Speakesy via the linked feature.

Be careful. The max amount allowed in 24 hrs is only 3000 mg (since 2011 research, used to be 4000 mg ). If you take more there's risks like liver inflammation and liver failure - serioufs stuff. There's also loads of interactions with other medicines. And no booze!nightmare.believer wrote:Some great help here. Thank you. Please keep it coming.

Oh, lighten up. The guy used to have an entertaining blog where he vented frustrations about Korean "ajosshis," including tales of intentionally shoving/driving his shoulder into those who wouldn't get out of his way. It was good comedy, it's a shame he no longer has a sense of humor about such things.Chuangt2u wrote: GavinMac attacking someone, who's in a difficult place from which to properly defend himself, with misrepresentative tosh about something that happened a long time ago... where's the surprise.
