Old Knee Injury and Exercise
Old Knee Injury and Exercise
Many years ago I got taken down by a cop (long story) with a vicious sideways kick to my left knee which was bearing pretty much all my weight at the time.
I want to start exercising again, but pretty much the only part of a gym I can stand is the treadmill. This tends to make it worse though. Is there something I can do to strengthen the knee area or whatever?
Thanks.

You need to strengthen the muscles around the knee first, ie your hamstrings, calves, quads, adductor, abductor , basically all your legs muscles. Stay off the treadmill if it hurts. Get the gay boy instructors to show you how to do it, give em a dollar and make em happy. Don't forget to warm up first and stretch after.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.

Yeah, same to me. Depending on how many years, just try small stuff at first. The treadmill is bs. Try a couple curls with your knees, but try extremely low weights to start. If the ligaments were not torn to hell, you can build them back up.RobW wrote:Many years ago I got taken down by a cop (long story) with a vicious sideways kick to my left knee which was bearing pretty much all my weight at the time.

Maybe the cycling machines too? Normal cycling doesn't seem to make it worse.

Elliptical or exercise bike with low resistance - higher resistances seem to put pressure on the ACL.RobW wrote:Maybe the cycling machines too? Normal cycling doesn't seem to make it worse.
Get a bike and ride around the city like you were always threatening ! $350 Giant Snap from Aeon - leave it at Horace's house when you're out of the country. No excuses not to get in the saddle.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
We all have stories of how we ended up with knee injuries. Mine was from many years of being on my hands and knees , crawling up the bosses ass. I cured it by giving up working. Then spent many years on my knees begging to my ex wife. Divorce cured that problem.RobW wrote:Many years ago I got taken down by a cop

As you would expect, I don't have much of a knee problem now.

After I broke my femur just above the knee, I found that after the doctor said I was better, I was still in a lot of pain and my knee kept popping.
Years after dealing with it, a fitness instructor? told me that I likely had muscles that were pulling unevenly (tore some muscles from fracture, left others tight) and suggested I spend a good 10 minutes massaging that area before I did exercise. It would loosen up the previously tight muscles and allow them to balance themselves out (if that's the right terminology...)
EIther or, I did this before each exercise session and my knee has improved. Not fully, but it's a bit better, although I still can't run flat out like I used to.
