Oh don't be sensible Ct2u! Any proper diagnosis would take into account the patient's proclivities. And I strongly disagree on the long-term benefits of marijuana. I'd disagree about the short-term effects if I remembered why.Chuangt2u wrote:But only the Yoga could actually be helpful long-term, eh?
Masking problems the mentioned ways leads to possible overuse of an injured area whilst masked and can easily make matters worse.
See a physio and rebuild functional muscular support for the area concerned. If a recovery's not possible and that's diagnosed, then at least there'll be an option given for best way forward that doesn't involve "spliff and a beer and fkit - it's good for now".

Should an MRI be performed first, or will a physio be able to diagnose the problem alone?Chuangt2u wrote:But only the Yoga could actually be helpful long-term, eh?

I think I know why I like you - subconsciously you've always reminded me of Keith Floyd.RobW wrote:Put on the Stranglers.
Walking up and down the pool doesn't sound like the sort of thing the young studs would do; hardly something to make the peaches come on and lap me up .
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
and rob....the pool session does not even need to resemble a work out. just simply lean forward and power walk as fast as you can comfortably. the biggest issue you will have is traction on the tiles but you will soon find the happy mid point. in the Philippines i was swimming a lot in my condo pool. i would do laps, then walks, then single lap sprints etc etc a real mix up to keep the body guessing. i was also walking the 16 floors via the stairwell to and from pool sessions. as a result..as you saw.....i came back in superb condition
Rated R for Ricecakes
^certainly your knees have exceptional load bearing quality.
I'll give it a bash.

Sorry, I'm confused now. You're having a wank whilst thinking of ricecakes' load-bearing knees? Ewww...RobW wrote:^certainly your knees have exceptional load bearing quality.

I ruined my knees in Darwin in 1976 when making 4k a week. In those days anterior and cruciate ligaments could not be repaired. But subsequently my knees have almost recovered thanks to massive injections of drugs and alcohol. Having said that I don't think that I could tackle Kokoda or the Black Cat Track, but I would love to try.

vital part of the story there. Glad you didn't leave that out, as it would have completely changed the story.ken svay wrote:I ruined my knees in Darwin in 1976 when making 4k a week. Hi guys,
A month ago, after leg exercises, I felt cracking/creaking in my left knee. But it only made the creaking sound and feeling after the exercises.
But as I lay in bed a few nights a go, if I raise my leg and bend my leg, I can hear and slightly feel unease with every bending movement.
Will I need surgery or can I just keep exercising, focusing the majority of leg days on my creaking knee?
I'm now scared to do squats and any sports that are to do with running. I don't want to exacerbate the creaking or increase the pain in the knee.
I don't quite have the $$ or spare time to make an appointment with a Physiotherapist at this moment.

Not a sports doctor, but from my layman's understanding, while muscles heal up powerfully well from microdamage in 2-3 days, joints/tendons/ligaments etc don't, but can take quite a while of accumulating damage before little pains and aches make themselves heard. Better to take 2-3 weeks off first and give it some rest. Classical bodybuilding regimens always advised 2-3 weeks off after every 6-9 weeks of training. Little pains, inflammation etc are naturally part of the body's self-repair attempts, so if you can't or won't see a specialist, then taking it easy for a bit is in order. I reckon squatting with a knee in pain is a no-no, if it fails during the motion you put your whole body in danger.0zirC wrote:Will I need surgery or can I just keep exercising, focusing the majority of leg days on my creaking knee?

I had the same problem for a while (creaking, but no pain), and eventually hurt myself. I don't think the two were related, but I would take a break as metaleap advised. Also, if you can't afford $35 for a physio, you probably shouldn't be working out in the first place. Best money I ever spent sports-wise.

Thank you for the input metaleap. And thank you Lexus for half of your comment. You don't know my situation or my business right now. And I don't particularly want to share my business all over the Internet.
Anyway... It appears I've put too much stress on my left knee when I started doing front bar squats for the first time in my life.
I will heed the advice given and not exercise on my bad knee for a month. Although I'm getting pressured by my friends to go swimming between now and then.
Thanks again.

I wasn't trying to be funny. I hurt my knee doing weightless lunges around 7 years ago. I was working out really hard at the time. Crossfit 4-5 days per week, weights most other days and running almost every day. I weighed 195-200 with almost no fat. Busted my knee good doing lunges, though I'd been hearing more and more creaking while doing both back and front squats prior to it. Let the injury set for years and only recently got it looked at by Phnom Penh Physio. Was sure I needed surgery. Four months later my knee was great. Should have gone to see them years ago. I now weigh 185 with a rather high bf percentage. I don't plan on being in the same shape again or squatting massive amounts, but it's nice to be pain free. So my point is, when you get the cash, it's a good investment. Especially if you're spending cash on protein and a gym membership. Once you get the cash, go see them.
As for swimming, it should be fine. One of the best low impact exercise you can do. Go out and swim your heart out.
