Just spent a month traveling around Palawan Island and during the trip heard there was a very good local eye surgeon Dr Jesus Ong, http://efocalpoint.pao.org.ph/v3n1/index.php
My mate is a yachty and after talking to some of his well traveled mates at the Abanico yacht club I was assured he was excellent, having some degree of confidence definitely helps make your decision... even though Dr Jesus himself wears glasses (he told me he doesn't trust anyone else to do the job).
A short summery of my experience.
The office/surgery was always packed but being a touristo you are ushered to the main desk and your inquiry/details taken, after a few short eye tests you are taken for a consultation with the surgeon, he explains what condition/probs you have and what your alternatives are. Dr Jesus told me I have a small cataract and just the usual age related eye deterioration, mainly short and intermediate vision.
I opted for surgery since the cataract had to be removed and they have tri optic lenses from the USA, short, intermediate and long. The next day four more hours of general health tests and eye mapping. Once everything is deemed ok the appointment is made for surgery and I spent four days applying eye drops pre op.
Before surgery you get wrapped up like a mummy and a nurse goes over the procedure with a emphasis on remaining calm, once on the slab you have oxygen and a prayer, nice touch.
No needles, the eye drops are the anesthetic, a clear soft gel like disk is placed over the eye, you cannot blink but when they tell you to look at the red light it's like looking into the sun, very discomforting at first but you do adjust, especially when the nurse is holding your hand and Mozart is playing in your headphones.
I actually saw what looked like a numeral on the lens being slid in and being aligned, don't really know what went on as that bright red light kept me pre occupied. It took about ten minutes for each eye and when it's over you cannot see clearly, there were some huge black spots rolling around and some pain similar to welding flash but the prescribed eye drops helped with that. I was then sat down in the office to wind down and they even had a hamburger and chips ordered. A series of more eye drops are given and you are sent home.
The main worry is infection so no swimming, soap etc for four weeks. A follow up a week later and great, 20/20 vision, he showed me the cards I couldn't read previously and they looked like capital letters.
The next day I still had that welding flash pain but everything was getting clearer by the hour, night vision is tripy as oncoming moto headlights have a huge rainbow like halo, night driving not advised but it does feel a bit psychedelic in a well lit bar.
A month on I still wake up and reach for my glasses, old habit not needed.
Just to clear up a point, if your eyes are in good condition ie, you haven't been using contacts, severity of cataracts etc the doctor will do both eyes on the same day if so requested, some people prefer one at a time regardless, understandable.
Laser eye correction surgery (Philippines)
So it's not laser surgery then but replacement lens surgery?
The website is just a body information website and not specific for Dr Ong, do you have a one for him?
Also, how much was it?

It is actually called laser lens replacement, more accurate and of course blade less, more about it here... http://www.eyeinstitute.co.nz/eye-surge ... cement.htm
The clinic is in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, near the airport, there doesn't seem to be an actual site for the Palawan Eye Clinic but all you need to know is on the Face book, that's Jesus with the glasses on here ...https://www.facebook.com/palawaneye/
Can't give you prices for the single lens but the tri optical lens all up op came to around 4k AUD, plus hamburger chips.
