How long will hospital keep someone for free??
Eddie and Edwardo and Wolfcreek,
I believe that the only access to VA Healthcare in SEA is in Manila.
It's a cautionary tale. NEVER travel overseas without an health policy that includes emergency medical evacuation back to the US.
Don't be this guy.

If you don't know where you're going, any road takes you there.
Went by to visit my friend today and found his wife sitting there (she said she arrived about one week ago). I told her what I could, and hopefully she will be able to get everything sorted out in time.....
I have just learned that my friend passed away at 2:30 pm last night (with his wife by his side).

it is but I stand by it. re-read his situation. tell me how it would have been better to live on as he was. he was partially paralysed, without support from family, accumulating debt in hospital, unable to travel, needing physio, etc. etc. It would have been crippling financially to have got him back to the US for the treatment he required, if in fact he was able to be relocated. Without insurance covering evacuation, that alone would have cost a fortune and reports were that his family weren't taking it seriously/weren't interested... although the presence of his wife by his side when he died might mean that was an incorrect assumption made by others.

I just said it was harsh that you seem to unequivocally know for fact that someone is better off dead than anything else while knowing hardly anything about the situation.violet wrote:it is but I stand by it. re-read his situation. tell me how it would have been better to live on as he was.

How do you know he didn't actually have insurance or even evacuation insurance but couldn't communicate that? How do you know his family financial situation beyond what was told by a friend who didn't really know himself and hadn't seen him in a week. How do you know his wife wouldn't bucked up and have cared for him or got him somewhere he could rehab and improve. How do you know he was receiving proper or reasonable healthcare from infamous Calmette hospital and in the end they couldn't do anything for him. Lots of people go in the doors of Calmette with things that could be helped but aren't and they never leave for all sorts of reasons. A lot of things could have lead to him not making it other than him being a total lost cause. But you presumed he was a goner and better for it no matter what with hardly any real information.violet wrote:it is but I stand by it. re-read his situation. tell me how it would have been better to live on as he was. he was partially paralysed, without support from family, accumulating debt in hospital, unable to travel, needing physio, etc. etc. It would have been crippling financially to have got him back to the US for the treatment he required, if in fact he was able to be relocated. In the end the guy died and we really dont know anything concrete of his situation Violet and you can stand by staying you think he was just simply better off dead without really knowing anything other than a few posts on here by a friend who didn't really know the guys situation himself if you want.

ok. i'll temper my comment with an adjustment of wording... it may have been the best outcome for him given the reported information regarding his situation.

I can't say the wife had anything to do with it (or not).... Just that she was in the room and that he died....
She is gonna cremate him here..... Seems strange that a hardcore Catholic such as herself would do that, no? Also a bit odd that there is no mention of him on her Facebook page (just "Thank you, Obama" posts).
And was told today that the hotel/restaurant/bar he built for her near Angel Falls (Livingstone, Zambia) has been valued at 1.25 million USD (hopefully she will pay the hospital bills). And that the hotel is used primarily as a short-time hotel by Zambian Air Force officers from a nearby military base.
Seems to be fairly common for relatives to distance themselves this way as people get older. Typically, one relative steps in as the older member becomes less astute and gets access to financial accounts and ends up draining them for their own purposes eventually. There must be some similar situation in the animal kingdom among some primates.
This leads to many squabbles among relatives when the member does pass.
It's a weird situation and does not always play out comfortably as you would expect.

Angel falls are in Venezuela. I hope you mean Victoria Falls, otherwise you might find the hotel MIA.wolfcreek wrote:And was told today that the hotel/restaurant/bar he built for her near Angel Falls (Livingstone, Zambia)
