Care in the middle of the night
If it’s 1:00 AM and you wake up to a young child with a 40+ degree fever and other symptoms, where would you take her?
How young? Correct dose of calpol/tylenol depending on age as a first action, if no reduction in temperature I'd take my sprogs to Royal Phnom Penh (I live out that way anyway).FatherTime wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 8:08 pmIf it’s 1:00 AM and you wake up to a young child with a 40+ degree fever and other symptoms, where would you take her?

Kids have high temps all the time. Don’t panic.
Those cold patches help.
It’s completely normal.
Just monitor the tyke.

Totally agree - little guy had multiple temperatures up until now (5-6y) and a first dose of basic medicine always gave him relief; I never had to take him to hospital or call out a doctor. But that does remind me - under no circumstances should you allow Mrs. Fathertime call a Khmer doctor.
My only experience of that was with Mrs. Spigz being ill whilst I was at work and she sought her mother's help - this ended up a far worse situation than the first diagnosis of "I've got the hot inside". After munching a couple of the local quack's pills, Mrs. Spigz ended up in Royal PP being entirely cleaned out after collapsing shortly after taking the red pill. Or it might have been the blue pill. Or the purple one. Or ...

At what age do they start using an IV as a first line of defense?

I’m tired - IV
I dislocated my shoulder - IV
I’m sad - IV + Facebook post

True, however I sure was glad that my little girl was put on an IV earlier this year. I did not realize how quickly little kids get dehydrated when they have the runs and throw up.

It was more a general question, a just-in-case.
I would think Royal PP, as one could probably get there pretty quickly without traffic.
Are all the major hospitals open throughout the night to receive patients?

Kantha Bopha or Central Hospital are always options.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Khema is Toul Kork as well. It's mainly a maternity hospital as well so it's good for children.

Young kids get fevers at night all the time. Children's paracetamol usually lowers their temperature along with cold wet cloths.
I know it is worrying, but it happened to my daughter a lot, without any problems.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
Good advice.
Hopefully OP is now reassured.

Many people recommend Kantha Bopha but I always have the image of hordes of women lined up with sick kids waiting for first come first serve. Google image search Kantha Bopha and it sure looks like that. I could be wrong though I don't know. I know it has a good reputation though. I did mention Khema Toul Kork before partly because they have on-site medical lab testing. So for anything that needs to be checked with blood and or stool or whatever they can have it done and diagnosis within minutes sometimes... although it's quite expensive compared to many places.vladimir wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 7:55 pmKantha BophaFatherTime wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 8:08 pmIf it’s 1:00 AM and you wake up to a young child with a 40+ degree fever and other symptoms, where would you take her?
