New Covid "variant of concern" named Omicron. At least it's a pretty cool name.
No one yet knows if it is a greater health worry than original Covid or Delta, but regardless about how dangerous it may, or may not be, emotion/worry linked things like the stock market are having a real world impact already.
I guess focus on ventilation, indoor masking, and physical distancing, and vaccination, like it or not, is here for a while more yet. I guess too, that keeping a focus on the above is the best way to continue the step by step opening of the country (and planet) and avoid those in power deciding once again that another lockdown makes sense.
No one wants more of that shit!
Multi-mutant named Omicron
The shocking thing is, that two airplanes with 600 people from South-Africa to Amsterdam did have 61 people Covid-19 infected. Unknown, how many Omicron infections, though a 10% infection rate is shocking in itself.
Given, it seems to take around 14 days to do gnome sequencing, it is quite reasonable to expect (not proven), the Omicron variant is already widespread all over South-Africa, and has been spread all over the world (except maybe China, since they do let in only a very few people).
So, yeah, spreading-wise, this will be going fast (given this one seems to be significantly more contagious as the Delta version).
On the other hand, we don't know how sick people get from this version and/or how deadly it is. No reporting yet. In the lucky situation, people don't get really sick and/or it is marginally deadly, this might be the life-saving version, since then it might bring herd immunity, without the Delta version effects.

The thing is, how can you stop a virus spreading, if you have schools, and degenerate party filled shagnasty universities all open.
If they are open you almost have to wonder if it's just better that everyone catches the lurgy, and be done with it.
And having to enter a pub with a mask, and being allowed to take it off 30 seconds later is abit silly.
Although my fucking sinuses are getting worse. Seemed to get it after an ear infection in Chinooky.
Will go and buy the super duper Chinese test kit from Lidl today me finks.
Dont wanna spread any diseases when i go back to the Motherland for Xmas.

(Caution: poorly attempted humour.)
Bats, the only true flying mammal family, would starve in a day if virus induced fevers and swelling hindered its flying, so dozens (hundreds?) of viruses cause them little trouble. It has evolved to tolerate them. Want your body to get quickly acquainted with a broad range of viruses, get up close and personal with some bats.
Early in the pandemic, their virus load was seen as a reason to fear and avoid them, but 24 months from now they will be a common Christmas present. Everyone will want a few of these little virus incubators in the home! Shoulder bats will be a common sight in busses and subways. They might even name a super hero after them!

In The Last Man on Earth (remade as The Omega Man) Vincent Price is the last man standing
And they have found plenty of spillover infections from similar viruses in Yunnan and parts south which may have conferred a degree of resilience in local populations, notably those with more frequent contact with Chinese and/or larger Chinese communities.
