Exit Visa for child with never used US passport
We have been turned down for our 10 year old son's Khmer passport because the Sangkat (who is not deceased) spelled his family name wrong in the Khmer script.
It looks like we'll have to go the route of exiting on his unused US passport in which case we will need an Exit Visa and K Visa.
I've Googled 'Cambodian Exit Visa' and come up blank. Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

The Department of Immigration opposite the airport issues exit visas. They are supposed to be free but I paid $25 one time and $50 the next. They are only valid for a week.

I paid $100 but got it through an agent.
The K visa is super easy as you can get it on arrival and it lasts 5 years.

Anyone have experience of leaving the country with a new passport whilst your visa is in the old passport? My daughter's visa will expire a few days before we leave so I don't want to push my luck.

Exit Visas are not free, price increased several years ago, $30 is the official fee. Still only valid for 7 daysLucky Lucan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:18 pmThe Department of Immigration opposite the airport issues exit visas. K-type (Special) Visa's are free, and valid for the lifetime of the passport.
Living Seaside, you will need to take originals and copies of the following supporting documentation to the Department of Immigration Visa Office in Pochentong to apply for the Exit Visa;
- 2x passport sized pics
- Official Cambodian Birth Cert
- Kids passport
- Family Book and/or Carnet de Residence
- Mothers National ID Card
- Your passport

Hopefully you will get lucky like many others have been lately and be issued the K-type Visa directly at the DoI Visa Office rather than fluffing around with the Exit Visa and having to get the K-type Visa on.arrival when you return.
In regards to the error on your sons birth cert, because it was issued 10 years ago, and the Sangkat send the Birth registrar books to PP Ince full, you'll need to go to the Department of Identification to sort out the error.
I assume you're referring to a K-type Visa? Normally no issue with K-type Visas that are expired for leaving the country, but do you really want to risk any issues or delays?
If the kid has a Cambodian passport, then better to just leave on that though.

Fair enough, I thought they were. The first time I got one was 9 years ago and I was asked to come back in two days to pick it up. The second time was about 2019 and I was told that getting it in 2 days was very fast so I'd have to pay $50.PSD_Kiwi wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 6:42 pmExit Visas are not free, price increased several years ago, $30 is the official fee. Prior to Covid K-type Visas were only issued in advance from a Cambodian Embassy/Consulate or on arrival, however for obvious reasons they started issuing them in country during Covid, and many people have reported still being issued them in country at the DoI Visa Office, so give it a shot.
Never heard of anyone being charged overstay fines for an expired K-type Visa when leaving the country on a new passport.
Why don't you get your kid a Cambodian passport though? Saves fking around with a Visa.

The K visa was super easy and took less than 5 minutes whilst at the airport. I don't see the point of going to the trouble to get a Cambodian passport just so I can go to the trouble of carrying two passports for my daughter when traveling. One passport with one visa is much easier.
A few days of overstay is cheaper and easier to deal with and apparently there's no fine at all so why bother worrying about it?

Turned down permanently and forever? Why don't you go back to the Sangkat and get it corrected? Is the mistake on the child's birth certificate or on another document?Living Seaside wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 2:53 pmWe have been turned down for our 10 year old son's Khmer passport because the Sangkat (who is not deceased) spelled his family name wrong in the Khmer script.
If a kid's passport with a K visa has expired and they enter on a new passport, do they get a new K visa at the airport arrivals ( showing the old passport ) or do we have to go across the road etc......
thanks

K-type (Special) Visa on arrival, just tick "Special" Visa type option on the Immigration card.tingoton wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 5:42 amIf a kid's passport with a K visa has expired and they enter on a new passport, do they get a new K visa at the airport arrivals ( showing the old passport ) or do we have to go across the road etc......

I've been out of country almost 2 years straight (perhaps the longest in the last 29 years!), and don't recall seeing that arrival card earlier in the pandemic. I may transit one of the countries listed in Red when I next fly in. Does anyone at Cambodian Immigration still care about that list, or is it just a holdover from some once desired pandemic info?
