Good call.slavedog wrote:Knowing we had twins on the way we decided to have ours in Bangkok due to the increased chance of complications. As it turned out they came six weeks early and needed a lot of care for the fist week or so, especially the littler of the two (he's now as big and strong as his brother, by the way). I don't think there's anywhere here that could have given us the quality of care we received in Bangkok, right from moment we arrived from the airport, they were waiting outside ready for us, had my wife in surgery straight away, the boys were born an hour or so later. I'm convinced our story would not have had a happy ending if they had been born here, but who knows...and anyway it was nice not to have to put up with the kind of bullshit that Lucan described. But it didn't come cheap of course, just the cost of an incubator was something like $500 per day, plus surgery, room for me, room for my wife, medication etc etc, could have bought a new car for less, but it was the right thing to do and I'd do it again.

I've two, myself, but they were both born in the UK decades ago, so I can't comment on the local experience.pedros wrote: What did you do? I plan to pace around outside for a bit, chain smoking and heading to the nearest booze shop straight after, but the mrs has other ideas of me hanging around and holding her hand and stuff.
I'm really clueless about these sort of things, so any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.
For the first, I paced up and down a long way away and didn't get involved.
For the second, I got involved and held her hand, etc.
For the birth process, there's not much to choose between the two for me, to be honest.
One, you're outside and wondering - wtf? - and two you're inside and seeing - wtf? There's absolutely nothing you can do in either situation, and both leave you feeling completely at the mercy of the moment.
Makes a difference for her, though.
Best to be in the room (so she can swear at you). Mine damned-near broke my hand with an unexpected Grip.Of.Steel... remember - remove all rings: they will damage you.
After the birth, for the first - I was called, allowed in, and saw the Mrs and kid together - that was good.
After the birth, for the second - there was some really deep caveman sht going on in me the memory of which will outlive most else in my life.

There's been loads of Bangkok police on thai news helping mothers give birth in the back seat of taxis lately. So much so that they are now trained to do it if needed by the looks of it.

Undoubtedly triggered by nurses talking about him behind his back.Chuangt2u wrote: After the birth, for the second - there was some really deep caveman sht going on in me the memory of which will outlive most else in my life.

That was the traditional British way till the blokes started growing 'manginas' & feinting about the place at the sight of a bit of blood & gore. Possibly a cigar to go with whisky chaser if you were feeling decadentspitthedog wrote:
So basically he should have stayed in Bangkok and gone on the piss until the baby is born? Is that what you are saying?

My dad was a high school English teacher. My mom gave birth three times, I don't think he missed class. He just went to the hospital after work after the children were born.

I don't really get the idea of hanging around and bothering women when they are giving birth anyway.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I agree. Who the fuck wants to see something the size of a watermelon come out of their women's natch ? New age hippy shit if you ask me.Lucky Lucan wrote:I don't really get the idea of hanging around and bothering women when they are giving birth anyway.

Family folklore has it that my dad was on the back.nine at Royal Sydney with my mum's physician when I was born and they hit the clubhouse for a few single malts to celebrate. Now THAT is old school.gavinmac wrote:My dad was a high school English teacher. My mom gave birth three times, I don't think he missed class. Having your Cambodian wife give birth in Cambodia is worrisome (actually, i was frightened to death...), but giving birth yourself in Cambodia is a whole different story I guess.Miguelito wrote:Where are the esteemed female posters for their opinions on a thread about giving birth?
You know, that's the story they will tell you to frighten you. Actually it's a lot smaller than that.ricecakes wrote:I agree.
