K1 Fiancee visa interview questions

A lot of expats increasingly settle in Cambodia with families and kids, or acquire them while here. This forum is a place to ask questions and discuss all things family.

K1 Fiancee visa interview questions

I apologize in advance if any of these questions have been answered before, I tried to search them specifically, but didn't come up with much. I have been using visajourney as well, but thought maybe I could get some input from anyone that has actually gone through this already. So...my I-129f has been aproved, and I am now trying to get stuff together for the interview. I am currently in the U.S., but will be heading back to be in Cambodia for the interview.

Background: We have a child together, and she has one from a Khmer who took off when she got pregnant, never to be heard from since. I have spent almost two years back and forth in Cambodia, but didn't list it on my g325A as a place of residence as I considered it traveling since I wasn't working there. My first two questions

1. Do I need a police certificate from Cambodia? (I stayed in a mixture of guesthouses, a rental with no real written agreement, and even with her family for some time so there isn't much proof to get one, just my visas to prove I was actually there.) I have read a mixture of things about this, but have yet to find a definitive answer.

2. Will we need to do anything special for her first child to be able to get a K-2 visa for her, being that the other parent isn't around? Will it be a non issue, or a huge problem? He's never even met her, and her mom has always provided and taken care of her. Anyone done this before, specifically from Cambodia to the U.S.?

Any help is greatly appreciated, the more I think I have this handled the more questions I come up with.

2.

2. For her first child (k-2 visa) listed on my I-129f

Go to visa journey. Com as there is everything you could ask for within this website.

Tons of K1 mock interview questions on YouTube.

Sorry to be short but visajouney really does answer any questions.

Good luck and report back. We are scheduling our interview now.

PS. A crucial factor is whether or not you attend her interview here in Phnom Penh. If you can, be present. I

Out of curiosity, are these interviews conducted in a private office at the embassy or shouted through a glass partition in that waiting room?

I could be wrong, but I think they do most of the initial paperwork processing at the windows, and then do the actual interview part in a room. I have been there before though and witnessed an embassy employee explain very loudly to a potential applicant that his visa was being denied because his father went for a visit many years ago, and never returned to Cambodia. That definitely seemed to be more of a "room" type conversation, I would have thought.

I may have mentioned before that the embassy has put some cubicle-like partition walls in the waiting room now, so while the whole room can still overhear the awkward conversations, they can't really watch and stare as much as they used to. It's progress.

true; have seen a few women reduced to tears in front of everyone and her American bf yelling he wanted to speak to someone higher up.

as to the first child, AFTER ur married, ur going to have to adopt her formally, Good luck with out the dad around to sign off. Is he on the Birth certificate?

I was planning on adopting her formally anyway.

The dad is on the birth certificate, he probably isn't that hard to find, I think he's still in the same town. Hopefully he will be willing to sign something saying she has permission to travel. I don't suspect he will be overcome with feelings of responsibility, all of the sudden.

He may be overcome with a desire for money when he realizes that the white guy really, really wants him to sign something.

PM or Facebook any questions brother. It is a giant clusterfuck. I was wrong. You can do this without a lawyer if you just follow EVERYTHING on visajourney.com

That site was fukin 20 times better than my immigration lawyer( who wasn't bad at all, but they don't know very specific stuff)

Forums are great there as everyone is after the same thing and willing to help.

Felger- There is even a Cambodia section where people who just did their interviews come and report on how things went, what was said ACCEPT OR DENY.

One thing I have noticed from other people's first hand accounts----- The American petitioner being present at the interview is CRUCIAL. One man reported that the consular officer actually asked his khmer fiancee " Why is your fiance not present if he lives in Cambodia"? .... Work related contract, had to leave.. but yeah, be there for her interview.

They have been known to ask you to have a converstaion in English.

Other questions are the typical ones you can find on line- How'd ya meet. Did you have a traditional engagement party. What were the dates. Do you have even more evidence of your relationship.

One big thing to note is this- You send in evidence of your relationship with your I-129f packet. But you are EXPECTED to bring even more to the interview. If you are like Miss DM or Morticia and Felg, this relationship proval should be no problem as we have leases together, trips, photos and we LIVE HERE. They are mainly eyeing out the American dudes who have only flown over to Cambodia to meet their fiancee like twice ...EVER. That raises their eyebrows.

If you lie about anything, your fiancee will NEVER get ANY visa to the united states again. Don't lie.

Yea, I'm well aware of that scenario, I'd gladly kick him down some cash if that would make this less of an issue.

1. I can't speak to Cambodia specifically.
2. In Russia, you cannot attend the interview. In fact, they won't allow you into the part of the embassy that conducts the interview. Don't know if every embassy has the same policy or not.
3. If possible, best to get a notarized (and translated) certificate from the father stating he is aware of the situation, has never given any support, and is not involved with the child. And yes, you may face a challenge of him demanding compensation. If so, offer something reasonable. Reasonable would be $50-$100. If you travelled internationally with her kids previously have something to highlight that fact - it helps establishes that she truly is the only provider for the child.
4. The questions are almost all aimed at establishing a history between the two of you. If she has a photobook of your time together (especially if it includes pictures of the kids) bring it. If you have logs of emails or Skype communication it doesn't hurt to bring it along though I've rarely heard of it really being asked for or considered.
5. Never lie or exaggerate. Simply tell the truth about the relationship and its length and how it developed.
6. She may be asked what she knows about her upcoming life. It is an attempt to see if you have been truthful with her.
7. You must be able to clearly show that you can support a family - I've been told this is an area that is being paid more attention to in the past few years.
8. Be positive - as with everything in life - you act like you belong and folks generally believe you do.

Good luck.

pictures are really important. they want to see a huge photo album (i can't stress that enough). also, start sending her some western union and save the receipts (they want to see you supporting her with money). sometimes the guy gets interviewed, sometimes not. bringing multiple people, they start looking hard at your income.

Photos very important++
travel history together out of Cambodia is a ++ even if only to Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore ( easy to prove with both ur passports)
I understand that all interviews are in english and ur interviewed at the same time ( in a separate area) and your answers must match
where did u meet? how did you meet, how often do u sleep together?
also personal questions
his/her's eye color, hair color (don't laugh) your job, her job, middle name, birth place, dad occupation, favorite thing to do, schooling Tell her if she doesn't know just say so, dont try and lie EVER

they will try sometimes to trick her an her interviewer will say ( "dont worry, u can tell me the truth that u met in a bar, it wont go against you")
They did this to my ex.....

Good luck
