These are just the first hits when you google Cambodian bar association bribes. Are you really surprised that there's corruption in the judicial and higher education systems Gavin? Jesus...

Perhaps the profession is reserved for the well connected and wealthy then. Interesting.
There's a Masters level law degree, and also one in law and public administration. I wonder if that is a good way to get gov't employment.

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

My mates ex-wife went to law school and she is now working as a public defence lawyer down in Shitsville. Well I think so, as he just told me she was helping people get off down at the docks.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Yeah, you would think the bribe should correlate to future earning potential. I don't know what Cambodian lawyers earn. Maybe Playboy or Scobienz can enlighten us.Khmerhamster wrote:Me too.gavinmac wrote:No, I'm just surprised the amounts are that high.

They earn a decent amount. I was charged $1600 or so around 7 years ago for some veeery basic paperwork. Never again. The guy oozed of sleezy rich Khmer guy: limp hand and big tacky rings all over, Lexus (was in style back then), big wooden furniture everywhere, used car salesman feel to him etc. Khmer lawyer in a nutshell.
Anyways, I wouldn't be too sure about earning potential as you have to get into a cabinet (or start your own, which isn't too easy if not already part of la familia). Also, there's always the risk of a change in government and "reforms".
More importantly, if you're going to shell out 50-60k for her "education", which in reality is only a gamble on future earning potential, then why not send her abroad for a real education? Costs are cheaper in most Western countries and she'll actually learn something. If staying here and making money is important, then I say have her do an engineering degree. Much more marketable.

He's not paying 50k-60k for her to go to law school though. Sounds like a good number of Cambodians go to law school then don't pay the bribes to join the bar.

Some years back I was dating a girl who matriculated at RULE and went into their "JD" program.
She'd ring me to come pick her up out front every so often, which is a treat I tell you, watching the impossibly sexual female contingent of the student body spilling out as classes wrapped up for the day, thick-as-a-brick Contract Law books nestled in the crook of their arms.
Anywhoo, cut to some months later and I couldn't help but notice that my studious sex machine would pop over to my flat most any time, day or night, that suited her fancy.
I finally got 'round to asking her, "Don't you have law school classes you need to be attending?" to which she cheekily replied, "I only have to show up for the exams."
I swelled with confidence and pride at the thought of the future of Khmer jurisprudence.
As a worthwhile addendum I should ad that this particular relationship occurred early on in my SEA tenure and was my first here with a non bar girl.
But you'd never have guessed it. Behind closed doors, this hussy was freakier than almost any dusky trull youngwill could ever dream to have on his rolls.
There was a shocking amount of porn on her phone. Which was fine as she would quite often, late of an evening, desire to engage in and replicate many of the sweaty and sticky-sweet scenarios.
All this being quite hilarious as a few hours later we'd be off somewhere on my moto and she'd be dutifully guarding with one hand, the sacred spot on her lower back where her shirt and pants meet.
Lest an arrant breeze loft the edge of her shirt and a centimeter of ass-crack be laid bare to the world. Oh the horror, after which I'm convinced she would have instantly exiled herself to a nunnery and have spent the rest of her days in prayer and contemplation.

But then she can't legally practice, which will severely impede any job search. I've met law graduates working for NGOs for $250/month. It's still a better degree than "finance and banking", that's for sure.gavinmac wrote:He's not paying 50k-60k for her to go to law school though. Should I send her to Law School, a LLD (Doctorate) is 3 years. She loves learning and is great in school.
Whats a Law Degree worth in Cambodia?
