Should I send my Missus to Law School?
Considering my future with my lady. She has a BA already. (granted, you know ... its a Cambodian B.A. ) Her English is impressive.
Should I send her to Law School, a LLD (Doctorate) is 3 years. She loves learning and is great in school.
Whats a Law Degree worth in Cambodia?

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Me, on the other hand, I do. I swear.
It is actually worth less than fuck all and not recognized anywhere at all, except one place, so fuck all is incorrect and one place is here. Cambodia.

There are reasons to educate your Cambodian girlfriend other than as a moneymaking venture or for financial return on investment.

Cannot she have a lot more and better income earning opportunities with a LLD if she stays within Cambodia? I am thinking about when I am dead and gone so she still would have a good life and income.

I see the beginning of a great '7 Reasons" piece.

You live with her or not? If you guys are living together then do it. Smart educated spouse is wonderful.
If you guys are living apart and shes making plans to be successful in cambo then thats a red flag. Just saying

She did two years at ACE top of her class. She did three years BBA degree. Shes been working as an accountant for 3 years. She studies Chinese now, and is high intermediate in English. (we have also been to China together)JimSocks wrote:You live with her or not? If you guys are living together then do it. Smart educated spouse is wonderful.

We have been together for a year, and kept up long distance for three. This is my idea, not hers.
Also, I put her back in Chinese language classess, as her personality type is such that she needs to be busy or shes on my neck.
It's nice having a smart educated spouse perhaps, It would be nice if she took some initiative and learned how to do her own research, for example. (shes good at delegating)
Aside from the benefits of intellectual compatibility I wondered about her ability to earn any kind of decent income with that degree. I do not mind investing in her, as she will have to care for me as I get older.

How much do Cambodian lawyers pay to join the Bar Association? I see on the website that there are at least 1200 registered lawyers in Cambodia, they must think the fee is worth it.

Is that a one time fee, or annual? Is there a regular articling period like in the USA?gavinmac wrote:How much do Cambodian lawyers pay to join the Bar Association? I see on the website that there are at least 1200 registered lawyers in Cambodia, they must think the fee is worth it.

Do a Google search ad it's been in newspapers. Even if you're st the top of your class and you pass the exam, there's a closed door "question session". I've heard this firsthand from law students who couldn't make the bar because their parents didn't have the cash, as well as either the Daily or Post had had stories on it. I can't be bothered googling, but something like 50k off the top of my head. Might be way off, I've forgotten.

Hey look, I was right target!

I'm sure it becomes lucrative once you're a "accepted" into the bar. However, if shelling out 60k or so, I'd think an internationally recognized degree from a reputable country would be a better investment for someone who actually likes learning vs paying their way through higher education. My 2c.
