Just a small room in the countryside.

Nah, she already considers it a personal betrayal. I had to let her know it's just part of her culture and they didn't really mean to embarrass her. Now she's going to go in like a foreigner. Tell them exactly what to build, possibly how to build with floor plans, pictures of what she wants, etc. and leave nothing for them to interpret or imagine.Lucky Lucan wrote:I'm sure that was very reassuring for her to find out that you think she's part of some damned race who can't think straight.newkidontheblock wrote: I had to reassure her that it's the difference between Khmer thinking and foreigner thinking.

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Piss off the lot of you.
I think it's great that NKOTB is able to explain his wife's culture to her. It's guys like him who are making a difference here.
How are Khmer folk expected to understand their culture unless we have people like NKOTB explaining it to them.

Not saying I am right, but in my understanding, my girl couldn't be embarrassed of her family or culture on my behalf. I would think her family and communities ideas and would be a lot stronger source of that.newkidontheblock wrote:Nah, she already considers it a personal betrayal. Well, that would be proper project management for best results anywhere.newkidontheblock wrote: Now she's going to go in like a foreigner. Tell them exactly what to build, possibly how to build with floor plans, pictures of what she wants, etc. and leave nothing for them to interpret or imagine.

Lost in translation. They are building what they think is appropriate based upon their own experience.

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and ...
They are building what they want for their house because it's being paid for by the gullible foreigner who'll be too large to use the tiny bathroom and toilets.PorkPiePorn wrote:Lucky Lucan wrote:Can you explain to us how any of this building disaster relates in any way to culture?newkidontheblock wrote: I had to let her know it's just part of her culture...
