Are any schools competitive?

A lot of expats increasingly settle in Cambodia with families and kids, or acquire them while here. This forum is a place to ask questions and discuss all things family.

Are any schools here actually competitive, with a wait list, etc? Or, as long as you can pay for it, the kids can go?

Can only speak of experience Learning Jungle up in Toul Kork for which there was a waiting list; registered my son when he was 1 year old to join the kindergarten & he was accepted at 18 months, some friends not so lucky & thought they could leave it until the last minute. CIS also had a waiting list - my limited knowledge of the bigger secondary education facilities (ISPP, Northbridge, etc) is that they also have waiting lists.

Thanks for the info.

How about places like CIA? I figure that the Aus and Canadian schools are new enough they don't have any wait list yet. Perhaps Descartes does, as one of the oldest schools?

ICAN has a two year waiting list for all the lower years. It may be shorter though depending on your nationality as like all the international schools they don't allow students from any nationality to make up more than 30% of the numbers.

Schools are very competitive, incl. the public schools. It's a lot of work to become a class A student here, it really is.

English school around the corner, had my son counting to 1000, spelling simple words, before turning 5, all at $1 a day.
And the public school is running the niece from Prey Veng pretty hard too. Anything less than C, is considered fail, so
making it through 12th grade here, is no joke.
