Guesthouses/Hotels with a view of the Tonle Sap
Guesthouses/Hotels with a view of the Tonle Sap
From an earlier thread I understand the better Guesthouses/Hotels are mostly situated towards the centre. However, I´d still prefer a room with a view of the river. I like to watch the hustling and bustling down on the street and the view is worth a lot to me. I stayed in a few about 6 years ago, so I´m not really up to date. What do you recommend?
The Himawari offers excellent accommodation and has a great view of the Tonle Sap:

Try the Wooly Rhino
or there is one hotel that is apparently an advertiser here, I can't remeber it's name but it rhymes with hopeless wanker; they are on the waterfront, but beware the owner is thin skinned he gets upset with admin if you call his place the hopless wanker; so I will not actually identify it., you'll have to work it out
cheers

Hope and Anchor? That place is a complete overpriced rip off. Plus the rooms are crap. I wouldnt pay $15/night for what they have.LaudJohn wrote:Try the Wooly Rhino

For a MUCH cheaper price you can get a MUCH better room at somewhere like the pickled parrot.

I am not going to disagree with you...
However when this question was asked last year I got into all sorts of trouble from admin for mentioning what you just did.
Apparently the Hope and Anchor is an advertiser here and the other place hates this board (maybe it's personal); I was chastised for causing problems with an advertiser while driving business to a board hater.
Hence I resolved never to mention that other place again (despite having stayed there, and recommending it to others and having known the manager since it opened), while never denigrating the other place where the advertiser is thin skinned.
Please note that I can neither confirm nor deny that the Hope and Anchor is the place I was talking about in my first post. Anyhow I am sure it is a nice which has appeal to some people. I used to like a place called Mikeys on the waterfront but it went downhill after Doug sold out and I can't remember what became of it...
I guess the best recommendation for the Hope and Anchor is how quickly and effusively Admin recommended the place here and in the previous thread.
cheers,
LaudJohn
Doug has the best Sunday BBQ in SR. And he just got a new son last month, Douglas Mikey or Mikey Douglas. The GO's doing well and its BBQ is the only thing I miss from Siem Reap ... well, just a bit.LaudJohn wrote:... Sunsan, I believe I met you at one of them. I don't have any nice words to say about my experience at the above hotel so I won't say anything. I would like to know the correct price of the BBQ though. Was it $5 as Doug said it was or was it $6 that I was billed by the staff?Doug has the best Sunday BBQ in SR
