You have to go through Vietnam.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
unless you fly to saigon, then jump straight on a flight to phu quoc, without leaving saigon airport, and then you dont need a visa.

The border at Ha Tien is so open you'll barely notice you've crossed into vietnam.
If your in Kampot it takes no time at all to reach the ferry at Ha Tien 40-60mins.
Lots of threads on this.

I just meant without going through mainland Vietnam.jm wrote:Phi Quoc IS Vietnam last time I checked.
Wikitravels says that "Visitors from any country arriving to Phu Quoc by cruise ship no longer need a visa for stays of up to 15 days. A passport with at least 45 days' validity is still necessary.", so I was wondering if there was a way to get there directly from Kampot / Kep. Wouldn't mind taking my motorcycle (250cc) down there, anyone got experience with that?
I read somewhere that a ferry has been proposed or maybe is even in the planning stages, but there is nothing yet. I think I also read that even if it starts operating, it will only be for Cambodian (or maybe all ASEAN) passport holders. However, unless Sunsan someone can confirm this info, you should assume it is all just an unfounded rumor.

no,definitely no ferry from the kampot/kep area. a jap company spent around a million dollars researching the area and the possibility of building a ferry/cruise ship dock, but pulled out due to very corrupt officials shafting them for more and more money. i am told by more than one person, that you can now take your baja across the ha tien crossing, but how it would be going to phu quoc with it,im not sure.
I had no problem taking an airblade across,no papers or insurance required.
The car ferry leaves every day at 9 or 10am,i cant remember.Quite nice for a moto except the main north south roads are being turned into the biggest dual carriageways in the world.

I took a DR650 into HaTien and on the ferry to Phu Quoc for a couple of days in May and was accompanied by a friend on a Djebel.krisduncs wrote:no,definitely no ferry from the kampot/kep area. a jap company spent around a million dollars researching the area and the possibility of building a ferry/cruise ship dock, but pulled out due to very corrupt officials shafting them for more and more money. i am told by more than one person, that you can now take your baja across the ha tien crossing, but how it would be going to phu quoc with it,im not sure.
But Bajas could indeed be a problem I guess, since Suzuki's rule!.
It's a pity about the Ferry, as Kampot is one hell of a lot closer.
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

Nice. So it is as simple as getting a visa and showing up at the border?
Do you need any special papers for the bike?
People told me it's practically impossible to take anything bigger than a 170cc into Vietnam.

It's a Special Economic Zone, so you can get a visa waiver for Ha Tien for 15 days, that's why it's also easy to get a bigger bike in through there. It's only supposed to be valid for Ha Tien, but they are overlooking that and you can get on a ferry to Phu Quoc.
