Does anyone have a definitive answer to the following question.........no hearsay or rumours thanks.
Can I turn up at the Koh Kong border crossing (on the Thai side) and buy the compulsory Thai insurance for a motorcycle?
Or should I organise it through mates in Thailand before departure in a few weeks time.
Cheers Murray.

I started my post with a bit of a disclaimer hoping that clueless people like Phuket2006 would not waste my time with pathetic posts.
He obviously thinks this is a Thai website so once again I will ask.......
(obviously my bikes are registered in Cambodia)

I was trying to help ,
GT riders knows more about biking in Asia that anyone. If u had bothered to open the thread u would see they allow u to fill out a form an ask for information.
They also have a forum, I am 100% u will get a response that is much better than u will get here
I have 1970 Triumph T100 that runs Ca plates and was brought into Thailand in 1999 via Malaysia and NEVER brought insurance for it.
I have also ride small Hondas here and never had insurance

Thai insurance has been compulsory on Cambodian cars and bikes travelling into Thailand for quite a few years now.
Mine has expired.
About 3 years ago three of us were stuck at the border for hours as we didn't have that insurance.
According to the article by Simon Oliver the answer to my question is a simple "Yes".
It sounds like cars and bikes are around the same price.
I previously spoke to an insurance broker in Pattaya, Jack Levy, and he told me this insurance is virtually useless but you must have it to enter Thailand.
Once I do enter Thailand I will be allowed to stay for 14 days, and my bike will get 30 days.....go figure.

Yes you can purchase Thai insurance at the Koh Kong border.
It's 800 baht & valid for a year.
I presume a car & a motorbike is the same. A motorbike may even be cheaper.
I wrote the post above, bought insurance in June of last year which was still valid this December when I crossed again.

thai insurance is not worth a shit, when all the blame is yours, they believe that if you didnt come to thailand, you wouldnt have had an accident, thats the thai philosophy regarding foreigners, fuck the thais
I have known for years that it is virtually worthless, but without it I won't get through the border.
