Book on Agoda.com. Best deals there. Make sure you stay in Bukit Bintang, Chinatown or Klang Valley.

I stayed at the Federal about half a year ago. It used to be one one of the best hotels in KL in the 70s with a great revolving seafood restaurant right at the top which we loved as children. Now it's full of Arabs.

The Gardens Hotel and Residences. It's attached to a huge shopping mall, which includes a big food court on the bottom. There were a couple of GREAT Chinese restaurants there, which we ate at every day. Plus tons of whatever fast food poison you've been missing.

The rooms were really nice, and it was one of the few hotels I found where myself, my wife and my two tween-teenage kids could all stay in a double room and sleep comfortably. It's a bit out of the center of town, but easy to get around via taxi or train. Highly recommended.

I think the mall it's attached to is Mid Valley Mega Mall, my favourite! It's also got cinemas I think.

Yes and yes. And there's another very chi-chi mall in-between that one and the hotel, all filled with designer clothes and other frippery that makes girls knees weak and me walk faster.

Lots of hotels in the Bukit Bintang area, just depends what class/style you want.

This area is also:
  • Good for shopping malls Sungai Wang etc.
  • Great for the street food on Jalan Alor every evening.
  • Has some decent expat bars, Green Man, Finnegans etc etc...
I used to stay in the Radius but it went downhill badly a few years ago, the rooms became shabby, the reception took on the ambience of a Sudanese refugee camp, and the git of a receptionist went out of his way to be as awkward as possible.

Nowadays we tend to stay in the Somerset on Bukit Ceylon cost USD 75 - 150 per night (+6% +10%) for an apartment, maybe not so good for a shorter stay though.

As a cheaper alternative, quite OK for a couple of nights, the Replica Inn costs USD 30-47 per night. I have stayed in one of the $47 per night rooms and it was OK, though rather basic. Don't expect luxury at that price..

Federal was quite good and KL is an interesting city, very green.
But Sunsan .. not a dishdash in sight ! Probably because it was Ramadan.

A good break from Cambodia but always nice to come back!
