I tend to sleep in the nude. Which isn't a bad thing except for maybe on those long flights.

Fly if you have the budget for it, if not private taxi around $60 or try the Giant Ibis bus

New Riverside Hotel - $20 p/n, about 1km from Old Market
- Temple tours, or go it alone?
Hire a tuk tuk, buy a 3 day pass for Angkor Wat, Guide not necessary for every day, only the first (if at all)
- Anything that's a 'must see' outside of Angkor Wat
Floating Village, Flooded Forest during wet season, cultural village, landmine museum
- How many days do I need to do the rounds?
At least 3 if temples alone

Yesterday my Mrs went to P.P from Siem Reap and it took her 8 1/2 hours by bus as the road is in such a poor condition due to the rain and road works.

we stayed at a guesthouse "Green Town 1" and it was pretty nice. Strong wifi, good food (and everything you buy they just put on your bill for one payment as you check out) at normal prices (not the usual hotel markup), laundry service, aircon, hot water, nice comfy beds. I'll be going back there. $14 per night. otherwise everything miss tara said.

Mornings are generally sunny, followed by clouds in the afternoon building up to a downpour of only 1 hour, maybe some light rain after. This has been the pattern for most days.

Yea, did you also notice in the last 2 weeks there is a daily power cut when the clock hits 10 at night for 5-6 minutes.

I believe the power is taken from Thailand during the day & Vietnam at night (maybe the other way round) so also goes of for a few minutes at around 5.00am while they switch it back again, been going on for weeks now.flying chicken wrote:Yea, did you also notice in the last 2 weeks there is a daily power cut when the clock hits 10 at night for 5-6 minutes.
During nighttime SR & surroundings does run on the Kampot Hydropower, and during the day on Thailand supplied power.Steve Zodiac wrote:I believe the power is taken from Thailand during the day & Vietnam at night (maybe the other way round) so also goes of for a few minutes at around 5.00am while they switch it back again, been going on for weeks now.flying chicken wrote:Yea, did you also notice in the last 2 weeks there is a daily power cut when the clock hits 10 at night for 5-6 minutes.
Switch overs around 10pm and somewhere 5-6 am.
And not only the last 2 weeks, but for at least a month by now, maybe longer.

From The P.P.Post
"Wondering why the electricity is cut for about ten minutes each evening at 10pm, and then cut again briefly at about 5am?
Leung Narin, the administrator of Siem Reap Electricity, told Insider that the brief but annoying cuts are due to an electricity supply source change-over.
Since the end of November 2007, electricity in Siem Reap has been supplied from Thailand on a trial basis, and prior to this, Siem Reap electricity was generated by large diesel-run generators.
But recently efforts were made to reduce the expense of buying power from Thailand by using cheaper electricity generated in Phnom Penh during off peak periods, from 10pm until 5am.
Leung Narin said, “The power demand in Phnom Penh at nighttime is less than daytime. That’s why they can share their power with us, and help us reduce our expense.”
Each time the switch is made, the Siem Reap electricity supply is cut for about 10 minutes, allowing technicians to modify the power supply direction.
This electricity is transmitted from Phnom Penh through Pur Sat province, and hopefully the brief cuts will soon be a thing of the past.
“We are trying to find the way around this problem,” Leung Narin said. “We are testing our electricity equipment to make sure the electricity will never be cut off again when we change the direction of the electricity supply.”
Yeav Davy, electricity technical controller, said he has received complaints about the power cuts, adding that residents have also been informed about power cutting via radio and TV.
Some hotels, guesthouses, and companies are facing problems due to the brief power cuts.
A female staffer from Borei Angkor Resort and Spa told Insider that the cuts create difficulties at the hotel because some phones and printers don’t work after the power supply has been interrupted."
