Just been told by a guesthouse in Trat. I know them from before, quite honest, that they are only accepting Bhat 1500 now aand that a whole busload of tourists had to go back from the border as they'd spent all their bhat.

I guess I'll find out the hard way tommorow. Any1 know? 1500B is outrageous. Thieving scum.

Doesn't make sense mate "a whole bus load had to come back" - if they had been stamped out of Thailand they aren't going to get back to Trat without a stamp into & out of Cambodia. They could go & use the ATm machines in Hat Lek but thats as far as they would get.
I think your "honest" Gh in Trat is telling some whoppers!
That said yeh! Koh Kong immigration are thiving, robbing scum!!

That border has been trying the 1500 baht scam since at least 2006.

No, 1000B. 1500 is new. I've paid $25 a # of times but I couldn't get 'em any lower.

Word! Next thing you'll be paying 5000 Riel for the rice and pork breakfasts that local people only pay 200 Riel for, and they get a free Coke with that too!

If you read my posts more deeply you will see that they are full of questions. My distress at observing humanity caused by years of living and travel have not helped me to understand the human condition. My main observation about Cambodia that is different to any of the other countries I've visited , is the economy. I also write about other places and other things. Also world economics is a hot topic afaic.

I talked to some German's in a shared taxi who paid 'em $40 once (as they didn't have baht). Everybody else always paid 1000. I guess they saw you as a possible big score for some reason. 1500 for what was supposed to be $20 ? That seems exorbitant even by greedy money-grubbing KK standards.

Didn't the price of a tourist visa go up to 35$? In that case 1000 THB won't do. That's hardly 33$.

In that case 1000 THB will just do, however the fee for the provider of the visa will be lower than before, when they asked 1000 THB too and the price was 25$....

Give the poor fellows at the border a break, they're on a low salary and have families too.
