AVOID Captain Chim Guesthouse-Kampot
It may be 3$ a night but on my second night I had 150$ stolen from a money-belt whilst I was asleep. Bizarrely they took out my card and left it for me. there were only 3 guests there....
They didn't even pretend to give two fux.
Then they have that deal-clincher the free laundry. Can't say how free it is as When I went back the next day, they gave me someone elses laundry, went home, realised, went back to Captain Chim's guesthouse and surprise, surprise. They had lost/ stolen/ given all my clothes to someone else.
So DO NOT GO there. Not only will all your money and stuff get stolen, they will literally steal the shirt(S) off your back.

I'm guessing these Jao are foreigners after all the good press we receive here about Khmer?D.Sanchez wrote:It may be 3$ a night but on my second night I had 150$ stolen from a money-belt whilst I was asleep. Bizarrely they took out my card and left it for me. there were only 3 guests there....

“ Best dorm ever”
5 of 5 starsReviewed 1 week ago

Stayed January 2015, traveled solo

"Can only report on the dorms. There are two spacious 4-bed dorm rooms on the second floor. Foldaway beds with new good mattresses. All very clean, quiet and with mosquito net.
One of the best forms for $3. Currently apparently even free laundry offered. Shower room is a bit of a distance on the ground floor.
Shower of course only cold. Everyone very friendly and helpful."
Lesson learned i hope. Dont stay in a dorm if nowhere to lock your shit up. Did you want the staff to go and confront the other dormers? You were fucking stupid enough to leave your money belt to be emptied. And the laundry? What do you expect, when its free and you are paying 3 friggin bucks for a bed?
Tattoo, wtf do you want for the prices they charge? Its very clearly a budget restaurant!! You pay low,you eat low, simple. BTW,the place is full every night,so it cant be that bad,can it?
And no,i have no affiliation to either their gh or rest.

Shouldn't you have been wearing your money belt? Even while asleep? Fucking newbies.
What Errol Flynn advises in hie book My Wicked, Wicked Ways, and I've successfully done it, when sleeping in a doss house put your money in one of your shoes, then put the shoes under the legs of the bed. If anyone wants to fuck with your stash they have to lift your bed, which should wake you up...

The OP stays in a $3 dorm and leaves cash out, and then blames the hostel / hotel?
What on earth are they supposed to do if you decide to sleep with fellow low-rent desperadoes. It's not the hotel's fault. It's yours for not taking necessary precautions.

I'd also like to add that I used to work for a hostel in the USA and we would occasionally get people complaining about having shit stolen. In every single instance, they did not use the lockers we provided for them because they did not bring their own padlock and were too cheap to buy one from us. I worked in various positions there for five years and I can think of one instance in which a theft occurred and it was our fault. A housekeeper stole a phone. She was immediately fired and the phone was returned to the guest. along with refunding their entire stay. And even then the guest had left the phone on his bed for hours, in plain view, waiting to be stolen.
Most of the time, the thief is another guest and all of the time the whole thing can be avoided with some common fucking sense.

You're talking about backpackers. Most have about as much common sense as hard cash.the whole thing can be avoided with some common fucking sense

I don't think it has anything to do with the level of accommodation. Certainly, you'll face more risk of theft in dorms vs. private rooms; guesthouses vs. boutique hotels, but with common sense you will never have your stuff stolen. FR had a great tip with the shoes and I've done similar. There are always ways to prevent theft, even when slumming it.
As for the laundry, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if that whole "accident" occurred due to you rudely blaming them for the theft. Sometimes showing a little respect can go a long way.
