Safari Holidays
Anyone know anything about these? I would like to take my son in August but don't know where to start, not even which country.
Kenya seems cheaper because of fear of the bearded nutcases or something but all advice gratefully received.

I have been on Safari in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. It has been memorable in each of those countries. Kenya is actually pretty safe inside the national parks, and East Africa has a "wilder" feeling to it than Southern Africa.

This massive migration thingy seems to go on in Kenya around now. Would be keen to see that.
Hanno. Would you recommend just buying a package (they are quite expensive) or trying to put something together yourself?
Seems bookings are down by up to 70% this year so a good time to go.

Why don't you just use Google Chrome like everyone else?
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Rob, if you want a decent Safari it will cost you. I would go for a package, you don't know the country. It is massive and getting lost is not unfeasible. Or robbed, for that matter.

Hi RobW, an excellent idea to take you're son on an African wildlife safari, may I ask how old he is? Reason being, if he's too young, he may not truly appreciate the experience and may not even remember it when he's older.
I have been on small safari trips in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Tanzania, all great experiences which I will cherish and remember for as long a mind stays healthy. My favourite was a 6 day canoeing safari on the Lower Zambezi of Zambia, we would canoe during the day, stopping off for meals and short walks, then camp at night.
I would suggest a combination of canoeing and vehicle safaris, that way you get to witness different species in different environments. Oh, and I would definitely recommend a camping safari, as opposed to staying in flash upmarket lodges, bonfire at night with a few beers/wines, good food and company, away from modern technology and the usual comforts of the modern city-dweller...get back to nature, most kids these days probably don't even know what camping is.
I have no idea what the prices are like, because I was lucky enough to have an employer who paid for everything, and a girlfriend with wealthy parents who paid for the canoeing safari I'm sure a quick google search will give you some idea of what to expect price-wise.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Thanks, PSD.
He's 14, so probably about the last time he'll consent to hang just with dad for a few years to come.
Prices to see the mass migration through the Masai Mara (which looks to be amazing), staying in lodges I guess, are about $5k per person for a week. I think that's all inclusive with flights etc. and just me and the lad in a Landrover, rather than 12 Chinese peasants spitting and discussing how the beasts should best be served.
14 should be all right? He's quite a grown up lad and this may be the last time dad is still cool for a decade or so.
Hadn't thought about vaccinations etc. He lives in the UK so may need these.

I'd say your sons at the right age to appreciate the experience and he will definitely remember. That sounds like a good deal if the flights are included. Have a great time.
