Quick layover in Hong Kong?
If flying from San Fran through Hong Kong to Singapore, think 1 hour for a layover in Hong Kong is sufficient? (I've never flown through HK).

Is it all on one airline/one ticket?
If it's different airlines/tickets and you have checked bags, then I'd say no, unless you are sure the first airline will interline the bags to the second airline.
If you miss the flight, when is the next one? A few hours later or next day?

Yea, it's all on Singapore Air, same ticket, so at least I know they're a reliable airline should the bags be misplaced. Not sure on the next flight... but we then would have a 4 hour layover in Singapore and catch Silk Air to PNH.

Singapore Airlines flies to HK several times a day. So if you miss your flight, you'll be able to fly out later the same day. I've flown on them once or twice a month for the past X years and they've never failed me when it comes to that sort of stuff. Wish I could say the same about the Middle East airlines.

Well, that would concern me - the later flight the same day on another airline. If you miss the one hour connection in Hong Kong then you'll be stuck in Singapore overnight at your expense waiting for the next Silk Air flight, IF they agree to put you on the next flight and don't just cancel your tickets.Miguelito wrote:Yea, it's all on Singapore Air, same ticket, so at least I know they're a reliable airline should the bags be misplaced. Well, of all airports, Changi is the one to be stuck in! If it comes to it, I'm sure I could weather a night in the lounge (or hop into town). And the Silk Air is code shared, so Singapore would still have to help out on getting me the next flight.
Purchased. I'm [finally] actually PP bound!

You will be fine. It won't be a problem at all. Ignore gavinmac's pussy advice. Like most of your countrymen he's not a particularly seasoned traveller.Miguelito wrote:Well, of all airports, Changi is the one to be stuck in! Yeah, I was assuming Silk Air was a separate airline and separate ticket.

It may as well be. It's rotten as hell. Bad food, no TV screens, small seats. That wouldn't be a problem if it were an LCC, but they charge the same as Singapore Airlines.gavinmac wrote:Yeah, I was assuming Silk Air was a separate airline and separate ticket.
One hour in HKG is pretty tight because the airport is big. A small delay and you have to catch a next flight. There's also a chance you make it, but your luggage won't. But hey, since it's one ticket it's all the responsibility of the airline.Miguelito wrote:If flying from San Fran through Hong Kong to Singapore, think 1 hour for a layover in Hong Kong is sufficient? You mean you will fly SFO-HKG-SIN-PNH?Miguelito wrote:Yea, it's all on Singapore Air, same ticket, so at least I know they're a reliable airline should the bags be misplaced. Not sure on the next flight... but we then would have a 4 hour layover in Singapore and catch Silk Air to PNH.
That's not really the shortest route possible. In fact, your flight from HKG to SIN will virtually take you over Cambodia.

And I'm not even starting in SFO! Obviously not ideal, but it's actually a shorter overall trip than when I flew through Seoul last time, plus, for two people on one-way tickets, the savings on these tickets was substantial.Kachang wrote:You mean you will fly SFO-HKG-SIN-PNH?

HKG-PP direct isn't cheap because Cathay/Dragon Air has a monopoly on the route.
