I'm sure there are some threads with recommendations before, but I'm traveling now and too lazy to figure out how to find it on my phone.
But does anyone have a taxi to recommend for a ride down to That-town-that-shalln't-be-named?
Spasiba! (Channeling my inner Russian in preparation.)
Taxi to Sihanoukville
Hey Miguelito - sent you a PM with Ph #'s
Lately I have been charged $50 for PP to S'ville and vice versa. Not sure if this is the best rate available. My trips have always been with an SUV, even though I did not request.

Just go to bus station at central market, tell you Tuk Tuk driver you want a taxi to Snooky.
A taxi just for you will cost you $50
A seat will cost you $10-$12.50

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

That would mean sitting with other people, the type of people who want to go to Sihanoukville. Sitting with other people means you likely have to talk to them. Can you imagine the horror?scoffer wrote:Just go to bus station at central market, tell you Tuk Tuk driver you want a taxi to Snooky.

I just look at them whilst I dribble a bit, scratch my nut sack and smell my fingers.
They stop trying to engage me in conversation rather quickly.
NB:
Gavin told me to do this because he is an antisocial bastard and hates interaction with others.
Thanks Gav,
It works a treat.

Thank you Blue Gila, will give them a try.
Scoffer the info is good, but seems like a lot of work when for the same price I'll get Lexus SUV to pick me up from home, thus saving me many hassles. And I plan to spend about 10 mins in Sihanoukville before I get on a ferry to better places, so I also need a reliable driver who will show up on time.

Over KNY? Make sure you agree the price and ask if it's the same over the holiday. Had it a few times where the driver calls you the night before (or even on the day) to say the price has gone up because it's a holiday.
Over Pchum Ben, the recommended driver sent a friend who tried to dissuade us from going to Sihanoukville and said Kampot was much better (though we agreed) we explained that we were going to the islands. That still didn't stop him from trying to drive to Kampot as it wouldn't take as long....

I always have the driver go through Kampot. The different route is a bit longer, but normally takes a bit less or just slightly more time and is safer. No trucks and buses to avoid, so less slow downs and heart attacks.

I've been told to take this route as well, for safety's sake, as more and more trucks are blasting through and failing to slow down (perhaps including illegal logging trucks). Not sure how to negotiate with the taxi on the fare difference for taking the Kampot route.Felgerkarb wrote:I always have the driver go through Kampot. Yeah, that's what we thought at first, that he was going to take that route, so that's why we let him drive on. But no, he just wanted to take us to Kampot!

If you negotiate the guy to $50 he just won't show up when someone later offers him $60

No negotiation at all, $50 is the price. I asked for 5 AM and he showed up at 4:45 in a Lexus SUV - in it now. Provided the drive goes well, if anyone would like his number feel free to PM me.
