Beware Agoda and the Nana
Beware Agoda and the Nana
Only two bad experiences on this trip. Agoda cancelled my booking for one night at the Nana because I didn't supply them with photos of my credit card and passport. Ridiculous request which I thought was a scam but they did cancel the booking and did refund the payment immediately.
I got to the Nana and the booking was cancelled so I paid for one night with my credit card and a signature. Today I checked my CC statement, 7 April the Nana for $54 and 21 April the Nana for $147.90!
I was in Phnom Penh about to leave for Bali that day.
Scammed!
The bank said if I didn't cancel the five week old card I would be liable for any further debts and they would investigate the pending payment. They said they had trouble with no complaints about Agoda scams but they did have problems with booking.com

I had that shit from Agoda almost two years ago, I refused and they cancelled three bookings I had already made, I re-booked them on another site.ken svay wrote:Only two bad experiences on this trip. Finally got my Agoda account unblocked two weeks later after several phone calls and e-mails to a well-dodgy (Indian??) call centre, only used Agoda once since.
I only use my card for online hotel bookings, I always pay cash for hotel bills and for any deposit required, those are my rules.
Hotels.com is my regular hotel booking site, far more professional than agoda and stay 10 nights get one nights credit back.

So the $147 charge was to Agoda ? If it is I wouldn't worry at all. They'll fix it. They & Booking.com are a huge company owned by Priceline. I don't know WTF your bank was telling you. I don't profess to know Oz banking laws, but in the US, where the Congress is controlled by the banks, you are NOT liable for fraudulent charges. I've had my card compromised a few times & if they believed there was fraud, they cancelled the card immediately & sent me a new one. This all happened without me knowing anything until they called me or sent an e-mail. Just dispute the charge and call Agoda. This isn't some diabolical plot to ass-fuck you, it's just a mistake. As far as them rejecting the card and photocopy shit, they did that to me 10 years ago & I talked to a supervisor and the removed the request for the photocopies. Their bank's super-computer's algorithm says 'fraud' illegitimately sometimes. I have no compunction using Agoda & I have 100s of times. I use Hotels.com more though, because the prices are often the same and they give you the 1 free on 10.

I travel a lot and use Agdoa all the time. One trick I've learnt is go to the Agoda website and work out which hotel and their rates. Then find their email address and write to them directly.
As a long stay business traveler most hotels will bend over backwards to give me a better rate and usually an upgrade or freebee like a better room, free pick, breakfast, wifi etc. This works best in Latin America but might work as well in Asia.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

^^^^^ I find this so rarely works in SEA, that I've almost given up trying it. It works in the States though. Managers here are more worried about making a mistake than taking initiative & filing up the rooms. I was up in PP a few days ago, had to stay another night, & they wouldn't match Hotels.com. Their best was $5 more, no breakfast, & no 1/10.

agoda will fix it and refund the charge
in the states the cc will get ur refund and if the company does not refund they will make a $25 charge back to the company so its to the companies advantage to handle it.
PS; they have a huge office in Bangkok ( i worked there before)
Wanna get an extra 5% back?
get a free website and sign up as an affiliate and use ur affiliate link when u book the room

The way I read it, both charges were made by the Nana hotel, not by Agoda.
I booked with Agoda and got cancelled. I paid the Nana for one night and two weeks later the Nana charged me again but triple. Obviously the bank will knock back the illegal transaction as it is still pending. I suggested that a signature is easy to forge, but my passport tells the story of where I was.
The real nuisance is redoing automatic payments and the Apple account with a new card, this card was only five weeks old and now I have to do it all again.

Then why did you write this: "They said they had trouble with no complaints about Agoda scams but they did have problems with booking.com"

The $147 charge is likely a security deposit or something that is just blocked, but shows as a transaction. It will be reversed in due course. It usually takes 3-4 weeks for it to be reversed. It's no big deal.
I also don't get why your slagging off Agoda when they have done nothing wrong. It is pretty standard practice for a transaction to be flagged up as irregular when a 1st world credit card suddenly gets used in Cambodia. It has happened on most, if not all, my cr/dr cards even when I have pre-warned my bank. Yes, it's annoying but they don't want to get ripped off. If you had supplied the required information the system would then recognise that that card is likely to be used in Cambodia and shouldn't be flagged up again. As it is the next time you try to use it online expect the same thing to happen again.
What beggars belief is the fact you don't trust a billion-dollar US-owned company with your personal info but are happy to hand over your passport, credit card with CVV number & signature to some spotty-faced Cambodian teen, possibly get ripped off and then issue a warning against the blameless corporation. Weird.
