My Cambodian SO and I have decided on a whim to travel to Bangkok by land for the holiday. Have booked a bus to Poipet arriving around 3pm but otherwise have planned nothing. Hope to get to Arunprathet somehow and catch a train to Bangkok the next morning. Has anyone made this trip recently?
If so , any helpful hints at to what to expect at Poipet immigration, how to get to Arunprathet from Poipet (fares etc), decent place to overnight in Arunprathet (preferably) or Poipet (as a last resort), navigating the train trip or any other info that might be useful for this trip would be appreciated.
Have read a bit on the web but all is a few years old and things do change.

i did the PP>BKK via Poipet trip end of June, there is a load of construction going on at the main entrance, but the imigration office is still in the usual place to the right (even though all the traffic go to the left of the construction, you need to be to the right)McCambo wrote:My Cambodian SO and I have decided on a whim to travel to Bangkok by land for the holiday. never stayed in any accommodation in either PP or Aranyprathet so no info for that one,
the train station is about 20mins from the border
tbh id just get a taxi 1800baht to bangkok rather than staying over and catching the train, but the train can be fun when its not busy

I'd get a bus or taxi from the border to bkk. The train is way too slow.
The casinos run express coach travel to lumpini. Free if you stay with them in poipet.
If i remember correctly the poipet immigration will require a 100-200b "fee" to process a Khmer nationals passport on leaving Cambodia.
A similar "fee" when re-entering Cambodia will move you to the front of the queue at Cambodian immigration.
My information may be outdated as I haven't gone through for a few years.

Last time i went thru with my Khmer gf at Poi Pet she will be in a Cambodian only line at Thai Immigration other than the one u wait in , Seems to take forever. The Cambodians will also charge her 100 baht "exit" fee.
will she have a visa or ur doing the 15 days visa exempt for her?

Thanks all for replying. As to grabbing a car from Poipet ... definitely more efficient but i have always wanted to try the train as I love that mode of travel. Journey is more important than destination blah blah. Suspect once will be enough though.
A bit bothered by the seperate immigration cue thing as SO is not that travel savy. Should be ok though. Just doi g the 15 day exempt visa for her.
Still looking for decent lodging for the night.

good thing about staying over, if you hit when the border opens at 6am you will fly straight through with minimal queuing, (low season anyway)McCambo wrote:@JamieLambo @Gin&Tonic @Phuket2006
