Heading off to HCMC for a few days and wondering if someone could recommend a great place to stay..budget around $100 per night.

You don't need a $100 per night. You can get very good rooms right in lower D1, between Hai Ba Trung and Pasteur, for $25 to $40. Pull up a Booking.com map and choose one. I've stayed in half a dozen places in that area, all very good quality. Look for places west of Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Mall. Loads of bars and restaurants. I would recommend against Bui Vien twatpacker area.
