Hotel recommendation near Street 51(Golden Sorya area) Phnom Penh.
Hi.
I normally stay at the Flamingo Hotel on 172 off street 51 when traveling to Phnom Penh.
That's near the Walkabout bar (when it was open).
Currently they are in the mist of a 9-12 month renovation.
Can anybody recommend a GF hotel near this area? Price range $25-$30.00 max.
Website or email would be helpful.
Thanks.
TC.

Flamingos opened in late 2004 or early 2005 and haven't spent a dime on an updates since then. Even the website is absolutely unchanged since Flamingo Frank set it up back then:

Don't waste your time, both are closed. On the corner of Norodom and 174 (edit: 172) is a small guesthouse, I think the name is Small Castle or something. They have decent rooms at a steep 25 USD.

Gutted I missed that particular award show!! Must be some great engineering feat and worth the $30 alone. No photos on the website to back up this claim.Best showers in Cambodia & SE Asia
I think Kachang is talking about New Castle 2, quite close to GSM. There are a few along st 172 that are OK (Home town, Mama's Villa & Blue dolphin all have basic but clean rooms for a good price)
There is a new hotel bang opposite GSM, named the Purple Inn. The building is strikingly tall and thin. The rooms are compact and the ceilings are low. They actually have a ceiling fan in front of the reception desk that the doorman has to warn you about so you don't walk into its blades. I like new hotels because they have promotion prices and everything is, well, new.

It is a nice touch that they warn you about the low fan, rather than sitting back and watching you walk into it.QED wrote:There is a new hotel bang opposite GSM, named the Purple Inn. 'Uuuuuhh, Barang very tall. Blood, a lot!'
Thanks everybody for your response.
Just a quick update regarding your recommendations.
- Sending an Email today to Purple Inn regarding room rates.
- Blue Tongue has not responded to my Email (I believe they are close).
- New Castle 2 has not responded to my email.
I read another fairly new hotel close to st 51, named Panda Hotel st 53 off 154.
Contact info would be greatly appreciated.

Finding a place to shag a hooker should not be this complicated.

I typed in 'Hooker friendly hotel in Phnom Penh' to Google and got this site - http://www.friendlyhotelsguide.com/2015 ... -penh.html
They even show the real replies from each hotel as to if they allow guests. There are some funny ones.
Girl Friendly policy reply by the Silver River Hotel: “Thank you very much for your supporting our hotel, regarding to your overnight guest inquiry I would like to recommend you to booking for 2 person staying if not like that we will have to charge US$5.00 per night inclusive breakfast.”
Girl Friendly policy reply by Aqua Boutique Guesthouse Hotel: “Definitely girl friendly. That is cool for that. so please tell us when do you want to stay with us. Thanks! Best regard, Pheakdey.”
Girl Friendly policy reply by Circuit Hotel :“Actually, our hotel allow you to bring guest overnight if she has ID card. However, our receptionists need to ask permission from you before she goes into your room or when she leave the room. It will be not extra changes.”

Newcastle will never reply to emails, try calling them directly (FB page has a number). The 'branch' on st 51 should be $20, the 'new' one is $25-30 I believe. Nana on 154 and 51 is a good alternative, though the rooms are a bit small but suprisingly clean, $20 w/out bfast, 25(?) with. Another cheapish alternative is Mondulkiri Hotel on st 63, $20/night IIRC. Last two are on Agoda, not Newcastle. All MUCH better options than Flamingo. ( )
Truly, I've got nothing better to do.

Is Flamingo closed for 9-12 months? What is the nature of the renovations? A huge addition? Adding floors to the top?

I could see it taking that long to clean the place up. Years of punter spunk and who knows what can be a bitch to rub out (too much)
I stayed there under kinda weird, funny circumstances once. Probably wouldn't again if I were in the same situation. Fun times. I didn't chose the place to take a girl back though, rather to get away from one for a few days
