Onward ticket / current visa
So ever since news broke a month ago about the changes in the visa/work permit situation, I have noticed a difference with flying into Cambodia. Never before had I been asked for my visa, but it has since happened several times. Today Singapore airlines asked, and then they typed in the number into the system. I asked what if I didn't have one, and she said "well they have visa on arrival, so that's not a problem, but we would want to see an onward ticket." This of course isn't a problem for those of us with visas, or for most tourists that have round trip tickets, but it does seem like an interesting current development.
Separately, and simply comical to me, an immigration officer in Indonesia saw my passport and asked "why do you travel around Asia so much?" I answered that I lived in Asia. She responded, very cynically, "Thailand?" When I said "Cambodia", she smiled and said "oh, OK, have a nice day".

Well, what do you expat them to say?Miguelito wrote:Separately, and simply comical to me, an immigration officer in Indonesia saw my passport and asked "why do you travel around Asia so much?" My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
Singapore Airlines is the only one that ever asks this stuff from my experience; I had the same questions on my one way ticket back in 2006 & they've asked each time I use to to/from the UK particularly. Like you say, I often get an incredulous look when I tell them I live here, hence my tickets are the other way around from what they might expect.

Nothing new, varies between airlines and check-in staff. If you don't have a visa and they won't accept that you can get a VOA, then you can sign a waiver saying that the airline will not be responsible for covering the costs of a flight out if you are denied entry.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Must be desperate to get traffic up on his new purchase. Fake news Mig!
Just kidding.
Just kidding.
pew, pew, pew, pew!

I saw the memo. They were told to screen all the creepy looking individual males.
Gavin, for your best trip you better have your visa ready or a good explanation.

I often were asked when traveling back to Phnom Penh from Jakarta about my visa and "residence permit" because of my French passport and only a one-way ticket. Especially the Indonesian staff at airlines counters (usually Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines) had difficulty of making sense of what a "permanent" visa was. One time, the counter lady called in her superior to double check.Miguelito wrote:I'd never gotten it before, but have now heard it on Singapore (I guess no surprise there), but also my last two flights on Malaysian Air.
I think sometimes it's just staffs doing their job thoroughly and making sure they aren't making a mistake.
I never have trouble like this as I when I get to the airport I ask the check in staff to tell me which country I accidentally booked a flight to.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Somewhat on this similar vein of being asked things I haven't been asked before, last night when I arrived I was asked by the immigration official if I worked here. I spoke in Khmer to him and he spoke in English to me. I told him I did, and my company's name, and then he wrote it down on my exit form that's stapled into my passport. I've certainly never spoken more than three words with one of those guys before, let alone be asked if I have a job here.
