Exciting road trips left in Cambodia
The resurrection of the thread from 2014 asking about the road between Sen Monorem and Ban Lung has me thinking. In it, people are talking about different adventurous/exciting road trips, and hard to get to places. But now you can speed up to Ban Lung in a sedan in one day, or down to the Thai border by Koh Kong hassle free over all the new bridges.
Where is there left to explore (and worth it, not just driving into the middle of nowhere) that is a bit off the beaten track? Would you need to go to the far edge of Ratanakiri?

The Pursat to KK road is opening fully and will be complete by November so I understand. I have driven it while it was still a track and it was spectacular, just hope they have not destroyed the landscape as they constructed the road.

why limit it to road trips in Cambodia??
Every year we start out at phuket, head up north, spend sometime along the thai /Burma border into northern thailand, cross over into Laos and head to Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Vientiane, back down into Thailand, crossover at O'smach into Cambodia (last trip from there went via Siem Rep- Steung Treng- up to the laos/Cambodian border-Banlung- Sen Monorom- PP-Kep-Kampot-Koh Kong-) Back into Thailand and home, 8,000 kms in 7 weeks..
Although not as easy to take a Cambodia car into Thailand, you can still head up into Laos.

Perhaps because it is mostly a Cambodia forum, the poster lives in Cambodia and ... I'm guessing here ... is wanting to explore the country he lives in further.Phuket2006 wrote:why limit it to road trips in Cambodia??

Good timing for this thread. After all these years I finally have some wheels to drive around and am very keen to do some roadtrips around the country. Hope there are some good suggestions. The road from Pursat to KK looks interesting as mentioned above.
No, I think you are being too rational now. Clearly it's a personal attack on Phuket2006 and his boring travel threads. Phuket2006 has every right to be offended.violet wrote:Perhaps because it is mostly a Cambodia forum, the poster lives in Cambodia and ... During the beginning of the dry season you can drive on the road from Kampong leng to krong stueng saen. A dirt road barely peaking out of the water level if you go at the right time. Also spending a day for the Kampong leng loop wasn't half bad, some nice old temples, almost no rubbish and nice views

I can't think of many interesting road trips to be done in a car anymore. Maybe Koh Kong to Battambang... Plenty to do still on a dirtbike, but not much on cars unless it's a proper 4WD, and still then it's very limited as the country is tiny. It also all depends on what you mean by road trip. Do you mean something slightly adventurous? Or do you mean a little Sunday drive? If it's the latter, then there's plenty across to Arek Sak and so on. Or just head towards Phnom Baset through the backroads then onwards towards Aural. Kompong Leang is almost all paved now, so doesn't have as much appeal to me anymore, but could be interesting to someone who has never been there before. I would suggest just going out and getting lost. Either way, everything is more fun on two wheels. A car will never translate the sense of freedom and oneness with the land that a bike does.

I am surprised you still read Mr unlucky burger, after being fired by Gonk for incompetence...

How long do you reckon the trip takes from PP going either way around after the new road is finished?alifeapart wrote:The Pursat to KK road is opening fully and will be complete by November so I understand.
