K visa Kvisa K-visa
Hello, everyone.
I'm new to this forum/website and this is my first post.
In the future, I would like to live/retire in Cambodia for many years or indefinitely.
I have the following questions:
1. I have a "k visa" as I am of Khmer heritage (parents born in Cambodia). What benefits does the k visa give me over the tourist/business/or any other visa?
2. Can I stay/live in Cambodia indefinitely with a k visa?
3. Do I need a "work permit" to work in Cambodia if I have a k visa?
4. I received my k visa in January 2018. The immigration officer put an expiry date on my k visa which is the same as my passport's expire date. Is this normal? I thought the k visa was for life?
If you guys or anyone can help me with any of these queries, I owe you big time. I love Cambodia, and look forward to retiring early and living there.
Cheers,
Sam

Pretty much the same rights as a Cambodian Citizen, apart from voting and property ownership. You should apply for your citizenship.
2. Can I stay/live in Cambodia indefinitely with a k visa?
Yes. As long as you have a valid passport.
3. Do I need a "work permit" to work in Cambodia if I have a k visa?
Yes, you will still require a foreign employee WP. Even Cambodian citizens are legally required to have WPs.
4. I received my k visa in January 2018. The immigration officer put an expiry date on my k visa which is the same as my passport's expire date. Is this normal? I thought the k visa was for life?
This is a fairly new practice, obviously the expiry date of the K-visa being based on the expiry date of the passport makes sense. When you get a new passport it should just be a case of having a new K-type visa transferred into your new PP at the DoI without having to exit and re-enter Cambodia.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Not sure about this. Yes, they are now putting expiry dates on K visas to match the date of the passport expiry. We were not able to get a new K visa at the immigration office for my kids. But this was perhaps because the old passport and K visa had expired. Perhaps it's possible if you try to get the new K visa in the new passport prior to the old one expiring, but I don't know. I had to pay for an exit visa at immigration prior to leaving ($45), and then on returning to Cambodia, get the new K visa then (in theory it's free, but I paid the customary $5 'money for ink'.PSD_Kiwi wrote:4. ^ That's a pain in the ass. The Immigration department puts no thought into their policies.

Yes it is, but my boy had been looking forward so much to our trip that I wasn't willing to take my chances trying to blag it at the airport just to try and save $45 (I would also risk losing around $700 in flights and hotel costs).PSD_Kiwi wrote:^ That's a pain in the ass. You had to pay $45 for one or two exit visas? They only charged $25 when I got one.slavedog wrote: I had to pay for an exit visa at immigration prior to leaving ($45), and then on returning to Cambodia, get the new K visa then (in theory it's free, but I paid the customary $5 'money for ink'.

$45 for one. I'll be going through it all again soon with my other boy...Lucky Lucan wrote:You had to pay $45 for one or two exit visas? $45 for 1 Exit Visa...bloody cheeky c**ts! The official fee is $20, as publicly announced.

They charged my wife 60$ for our youngest daughter passport but we had totally forgotten about it and it had to be done on the spot before the offices shut down for the water festival.

On the contrary, I'm sure they put plenty of thought into this. They recognized the problem for them was that this gratis K-visa was only providing them with a one-off payment. So they changed it into an periodical on-going scalp, meanwhile also doubling the fee ( It was $25 before, now it's reported as $45 + $5 fee at airport). It's especially a pain in the ass because it means going out to their office in Pochentong twice within a week of flying out.PSD_Kiwi wrote:^ That's a pain in the ass. I would call that a huge pain in the ass for those who don’t live in PP.Lucky Lucan wrote:On the contrary, I'm sure they put plenty of thought into this. Hahaha
Just to be clear, for anyone reading this seeking accurate information. ..
The Exit Visa is currently, and has been since Sept 2016, $20. Prior to that it was Gratis.
The K-type Visa is, and always has been, gratis.

I'll find out as I have to go out there and see them about transferring a K visa which they probably won't do but also about gluing that visa back in as it's gone all moldy and fallen off the page. All the other visas in the passport are fine so it must be that they were storing those ones in a swamp or they got dropped in a puddle or something. What are anyone's thoughts on that, should I just line it up carefully and glue it back in myself, I'm reluctant to do shit like that in case it's discovered by some overzealous immigration officer.

Most of my Cambodian visas and EOSs have come unstuck not long after being issued, just stapled them back in place and do the same whenever I get a new one, never had any issues.
