After almost 1 year my khmer gf and my planning a visit back to Cambodia, we travelling with a baby.
I read a lot of bad thing happen in sihanoukville, but what's the real situation?
The beaches are taking over by Chinese?? Its a no go anymore for tourists??
Koh Kong Island was 5 year ago a beautiful island, but its now taking over by a Chinese tycoon that build a big resort??
We want to relax some days at the beach, any advice please.
Best island / beach nowadays

SHV has indeed been taken over by the Chinese and you probably won't recognize the place. I was down in Otres the other day and even that has a serious amount of development going on. Some of the hotels there that was relaxing even 6 months ago have gone to shit. That being said, the beach itself was still nice and chill.bartderks wrote:After almost 1 year my khmer gf and my planning a visit back to Cambodia, we travelling with a baby.

I wouldn't be deterred from Koh Kong, and think that if you enjoyed it before that you still would. Koh Rong is a bit of a backpacker shithole right off of the ferry, but you can quickly escape that and relax on Long Beach or Pura Vida Beach, for example. Koh Rong Samloem is being built up more and more (in Saracan Bay), but I still quite enjoy it. If you're looking to really just sit in a hammock and relax check out Lazy Beach -- the bonus is that they will take you out on their own slow boat.
I would also recommend Lazy Beach it is still my favourite beach in Cambodia.
All Rooms have two doubles so easy to share with baby but there is no aircon, fan only and electricity is 24 hours
Whist their boat si slower it runs on time and is not overcrowded like the fast boats

Nothing wrong with a slow boat if you have cold beers.drwahwah wrote:I would also recommend Lazy Beach it is still my favourite beach in Cambodia.

Still some nice beaches for hammock dwellers . I like my hammock set lowww, with body diagonally across, one leg hanging out, whilst singing along to Albert King - I'll play the blues for you, extended version , and a can of Anchor in the other hand, interspersed with the odd bitching about Chinoukville with the girlfriend.
Just be careful of stepping in red ants though when you get up to go for a piss. The fuckers.
Peacsh.

Yes Otres beach is still beautiful but the village is a mess, however, the roads off the village are pretty good and there’s plenty of places to get away from the dust and noise.
Hun Sen beach is still a great place to visit.
