Taxi from the penh to the interesting bit of Cambodia..
I know KiR is no longer around.. but the title may still get the tits in a twist of a few of the forum users..
As you may deduce, one is looking for a taxi from Phnom Penh to Siem "bloody" Reap (I know.. I know.. but the wife and kid insist..) on the 25/12 (that would be Christmas Day in case you missed it..) with a stop off at the Sambor preah kuk site along the way.. The last time I did this I just rocked up at the bus depot and paid 70$ for a one way trip with the car all to my self.. but travelling with family tends to make me plan a little better..
so.. any recomendation on the how to do it and how much to pay for it, 3 pax, leave around 09:00, with a small detour to the historical site and arriving in Siem "bloody" Reap around mid afternoon.. ?
many thanks in advance for the help.

I just PM’d you a phone number (that a k440 poster sent me years ago) that’s treated me well. I just text him what I want and either him or one of his buddies texts or calls back pretty quickly. I just did that for some friends going to Siem Bloody Reap, and price was still $70. Not sure about your detour, but I’ll let you negotiate that. Have a good trip!

Sambor Prei Kuk should be pleasant enough in December. I was there in June and the forest was a bit steamy. Since it got UNESCO status they put the price up from $3 to $10 recently.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Aren’t the flights really cheap now? Cambodia Angkor Air for $100 a person or so?

Your timings are off. Leaving PP at 9am will take you to Sambor Prey Kork about 1pm. Assuming you stop for Lunch in Kampong Thom town.
Then if give yourself only 2 hours to walk around the forest, you’ll be leaving at 3pm. You will arrive in SR before 6pm.
You won’t be able to hit Prey Kok and then arrive in SR mid afternoon.

So that is 300 vs $70. You can’t get off the plane half way to go look at the temples eitherGMJS-440 wrote:Aren’t the flights really cheap now? Cambodia Angkor Air for $100 a person or so?
I thought it’s $300 round trip, vs the $140 for taxi.ReasonstobefearfulP3 wrote:So that is 300 vs $70. You can’t get off the plane half way to go look at the temples eitherGMJS-440 wrote:Aren’t the flights really cheap now? Cambodia Angkor Air for $100 a person or so?
Actually just ran it, below copied from Cambodia Angkor Air site for 2 adults and 1 child.
from Phnom Penh (PNH) to Siem Reap (REP) and found this fare for 246.60 USD on Cambodia:
December 25
PNH - REP
Flight: K67111
Departs: 4:00 PM
Arrives: 4:50 PM
December 28
REP - PNH
Flight: K67102
Departs: 6:35 AM
Arrives: 7:20 AM
So it’s $100 more in total to take a plane instead of a taxi? For how many hours saved of your time?

I just left Phnom Penh at 7:40 AM and reached my hotel in Siem Reap at 11:50 AM. The road is great (way better than driving to SHV). A round trip air flight that my friend took this weekend on Cambodia Airways was $100. With the door to door time saving maybe an hour or an hour and half, driving was a good choice.
Plus add transportation costs to/from the airports which would be 30-40 by cab, and the time spent in the airport. From 3 persons a car makes more sense.Miguelito wrote:I just left Phnom Penh at 7:40 AM and reached my hotel in Siem Reap at 11:50 AM. The road is great (way better than driving to SHV). That’s a 4 hour drive now? I haven’t gone by car since 2012 but seemed like it was much longer than that.

My colleague left at 5 AM and arrived at 7:45.GMJS-440 wrote:That’s a 4 hour drive now? I haven’t gone by car since 2012 but seemed like it was much longer than that.
It's a 4 lane (2 and 2) all the way to Skun, and then it's a wide 2-lane the rest of the way, with a new bypass around Kampong Thom that really helps.
