Entering Cambodia during Covid-19
(If there is a dedicated sub-forum for visas to Cambodia or Covid-19, I didn't find it, please point me to it.)
I'm looking for reports from people who entered Cambodia during Covid-19, starting from visa application to flights to hotel quarantine (currently 2000 USD deposit) to home quarantine.
To answer questions like: Can I apply for a visa first, and when I have the visa, I have 3 months time (validity of the visa, but I will certainly try to do as quickly as possible) to book flight and hotel and health insurance.
I'm thinking of getting a business visa in Berlin.
How do you go about booking flights? Many flights shown on booking websites probably will be cancelled. I would check which international flights are currently landing in PNH, and assemble my flight backwards to Berlin. As far I looked so far, minimum is two changes of plane and two airlines (e.g. local airline Berlin to Vienna, then Eva Vienna-Taipei-Phnom Penh).
Did anyone deal with the two quarantine hotels? How fast did they reply and how is availability of rooms?
The 2000 USD deposit. If I exchange money EUR to USD here in Germany, I will lose 4 or 5 % against xe.com. Can I deposit the equivalent in EUR cash and pay expenses by credit card? Or how does it work to pay the deposit by credit card?
How many flights had passengers with Covid-19, resulting in all passengers having to go through 2 weeks quarantine?

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Nobody really gets a "business visa" from an embassy or even when they were issued on arrival, which certainly isn't the case now. What people get is a 30 day E-class visa. This can be extended depending on documentation to EB (Business/Work), EG (limited period looking for work), ER (retired) and ES (Student), there are of course NGO and Diplomatic visas but these don't apply to many. The E class visa was called a "business visa" for years, when there was no enforcement and anyone could get 12 month extensions. Nowadays you will need proof that you are employed, a work permit and various other documents.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Thanks. I was looking for links like this.
Where exactly? I looked on the internet and here, and the information I am looking for is scarce.
That's what I meant. To avoid confusion over E class visa and e-visa (electronic visa application) I call it business visa.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 10:33 pmNobody really gets a "business visa" from an embassy or even when they were issued on arrival, which certainly isn't the case now. Be aware that Embassies still incorrectly refer to the E-type (Ordinary) Visa as "Business" Visa. When you complete the Visa application form you need to check the box for "Business" as there is no mention of the E-type Visa. I have digital Visa application forms from 13 different Cambodian Embassies, not one of them mentions E-type or Ordinary Visa, only Business.

The problem with that FB group is that there is one particular power-tripping admin who has a tendency to respond to many questions first with his own opinion and then he immediately locks the comments so that no one else can offer a different or more nuanced answer or ask him a follow up question.
For example, he recently suggested that someone with a Cambodian spouse would have a good chance of getting an E visa from the embassy in Washington DC even without a business invitation, but then he promptly locked the thread so no one could ask what the basis was for this claim.
I'm not aware of any directives issued by the Cambodian suggesting that E visas are granted based on marriage to Cambodians. Nor can I recall instances of anyone reporting online that they got an E visa based on marriage to a Cambodian.
Maybe this admin is right, or maybe he's a buffoon who thinks he knows more than he actually does.
Seriously? That seems to be standard practice and there have been plenty of reports.MontanaTranny wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 1:28 amI'm not aware of any directives issued by the Cambodian suggesting that E visas are granted based on marriage to Cambodians. I'd be interested to read any such reports. What embassies are giving out E visas to spouses of Cambodians and what documentation/magic words are required when applying for those visas?
If we're thinking of the same corpulent Scot, i couldn't agree more. He's a serial-googling wisenheimer of the highest order.MontanaTranny wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 1:28 amThe problem with that FB group is that there is one particular power-tripping admin who has a tendency to respond to many questions first with his own opinion and then he immediately locks the comments so that no one else can offer a different or more nuanced answer or ask him a follow up question.

Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
Due to age, (and the moral indignation of the woman who casually suggested to Hok Lundy that Piseth Pilica wouldn't be needing any bicycles, (Obscure enough??) She also is quite important to Cambodian Red Cross.) my most recent Cambodian marriage was ceremony only, so we got legally married overseas. Well, while that isn't' 'legally married' in Cambodia, it is a legal marriage in the country where the Cambodian Embassy at which I will apply is located. I expect there is a pretty fair chance they will accept it for visa purposes.
Don't you think.

I'd hope so, but what is your basis for thinking you can get an E visa based on marriage? Let us know how it works out.Guest999 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 7:29 amDue to age, (and the moral indignation of the woman who casually suggested to Hok Lundy that Piseth Pilica wouldn't be needing any bicycles, (Obscure enough??) I'm lucky in having options. I'm a registered business owner and the patent tax has my picture on it. I think I could use that. Or I could use a letter of invitation, written by my wife, different business, or myself. Or, another poster on another thread successfully got a visa in last 6 months based on family ties. I have those. I have dual nationality kids and a wife (Even if I'm not legally married to their mother the instant we enter her native land. Truly a VERY strange law!)
Quite vague, but I hope to stay in Cambodia 3-7 months.
Probably which reason I enter with makes absolutely no difference to which Extension of Stay (EoS) type I choose and they give me, so the best entry reason is the one most certain to work. However, there seems a small chance that stressing my business connection to enter will result in me having to get a worker/business EoS, and I'm not keen to use a quota space for myself when I don't think I'll be doing any regular work. Same with getting a work permit, pointless for a few intermittent days over many months. At this point, it seems a Retirement EoS makes the most sense, and I enter on Family ties or my wife's letter offering me work that I decline once in. Mostly I want to play and make the odd decision: chair angle, ice, no ice, stuff like that.
