Well, finite meaning a fixed amount.
How long would $6,000 last in Phnom Pehn?

Depending on where OP comes from, they would also need to budget for hotel quarantine on their return home.
I don't want to be toxic Mr. Zero but you should stay in your own country, there is currently enough expats living in misery in Cambodia please don't aggravate the situation.Z3RO wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 3:33 pmI’ve got $6,000 cash, yeah I know it’s not much. But I’m looking to get into the SE Asian Region and wait out this COVID bullshit.
Is it worth it for me to book a flight right now? How long would 6k last me if I don’t party and I just rent an apartment and go swimming in pools? I’ve never been to Cambodia, btw
Originally I wanted to go to the Philippines but that’s probably not happening until 2022, it seems.
Please try not to be pessimistic and toxic, I can’t stand those people.

True this. I can think of at least four expats I knew who formerly had very good jobs with good income who’s dream lives have turned to misery as they lose jobs, run out of savings and slowly but surely are now living on the bare bones of their arses.
Cambodia is no country to live on a shoestring as an expat.

What kind of trick question is this?
1. It's not 6k. It's 6k less the quarantine costs, say about 4,5k
2. His role model is one of worst pathetic losers who's ever landed here, NJH.
3. Given this frame of reference his likely ambition is probably finding a shared 60/month room on the 5th floor by the dumpster, with a squat toilet outside 2 floors below.
4. The highlight of his life altering experience? His monthly expeditions to a minimart near the riverside to enjoy the life , nursing a warm 50c beer and collecting cigarette butts.

It is not remotely feasible to think that 6k will last you a year in Cambodia. 1000.00 per month is bare bones living. You can take the expenses that Violet outlined above, and double it because something will come up that costs extra...it always does. Furnishing an apt., buying or fixing a moto, visa costs, getting sick or injured...etc. etc. If you don't have 2K per month, you are making an extremely poor decision to come here. At 2K, you can lead a simple lifestyle and still have a bit of cushion for unexpected costs, or to get you back home.
also what do you plan to do when here aside from eat rice and fish, swim, not party and live in a box room? how do you plan to earn money? NJH tried and failed to be a teacher, as schools are constantly opening and closing due to CoVid it is unlikely you could get a teaching gig. As no tourists there is little chance of work in the tourism sector so unless you have some professional skills it would be a bad idea. As others say $6k is a poor amount to survive on for a year but if you did risk it then what to do when all the money goes and you have no income? Start a YouTube channel?

You can get a tiny room with a bathroom here for $50 a month and cook rice and fish on a barbecue on your balcony and probably get by on very little. I don't believe anyone but a pure ascetic could manage this. You will also probably be living in a very small and cramped area down an alleyway and how you get on with your neighbors starts being a big thing. No Joke, in is favor, did his best to learn Khmer pretty quickly. That goes a long way if you want to live cheaply.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
