Latest info in marrying a Khmer citizen
I wanted to create a sister post from my other one, since this topic could be sparked differently. I am planning to marry my fiance in Cambodia. I'm finding out that just getting a marriage certificate there is extremely complex. It's not like going to Las Vegas and marry someone while you're drunk.
My question is: do you know the document requirements to that is needed by the ministries? What do they exactly want? Since it seems like I need to be in Cambodia for 2-3 months (I'm in USA BTW), do you know if I could somehow expedite the process?
I'm more than happy to give extra info if you need it. Thanks all.

She can get a single status certificate from her Sangkat now but it’s only valid for six months IIRC as are all documents.
Before you start they’ll want to know what history you have together (online doesn’t count), how much money you earn PM (min $2500), if she’s single, any property or current job she has etc etc.
There’s a FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/2813168 ... ?ref=share with good info.

Yes, you're spot on with what my fiance needed to do. We have a checklist that I just attached to this message. It seems more complicated than I imagined.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 2:59 pmShe can get a single status certificate from her Sangkat now but it’s only valid for six months IIRC as are all documents.

Do you know of any tricks or tips that we should follow?
There a bunch for the Facebook community link. I hope they also have a wealth of information.
Just find it odd that a man would go to so much trouble to marry anyone!

Sorry to chat divorce, but YTP said, Why?"
Well, if the wife has a high salary, once you are married to her, half the savings from her earning while married are legally yours, if you get divorced. That includes half of any property purchased during the marriage with cash earned during the marriage, IF, and only if, she can convince the Land Management office to record her as married on the land hard title application. It seems in the last 10 years this takes extra arm twisting and cash. (I guess they are thinking about the fact that foreigners without citizenship can't own land, but a judge once said it isn't an issue, as the divorcing couple have 6 months to determine what happens to land that isn't jointly owned, but to which they have joint entitlement to. Within that 6 months, the man must dispose of his half, either selling or giving it to the wife, or he sells his half with her agreement (spliting the land), or they both sell and split the proceeds, or, if they can't agree, the court somehow sells it (I expect they appoint a sales agent and take a cut) and the remainder of the proceeds are split.)
So, marring a rich wife with good earnings makes solid financial sense.
There is also love and companionship.

Thanks for the information. Are you explaining the marital/divorce rights in Cambodia, where half of the partner's income and assets would be equal should both parties want to part ways? I don't know how the laws work there.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 4:56 amSorry to chat divorce, but YTP said, Why?"

Yes, divorce splits 50:50 income earned during marriage, and assets acquired during marriage, IF purchased with the income earned during marriage (If you bought land, stock, or other assets before marriage and can document that, proceeds from sales during marriage are not split. inheritance is not included as earned income. Debts are also split if both parties knowingly took them on, but, like settling land, better to get agreement on these rather than let the court decide. As in most court issues, if there is a dispute, the court and lawyers win, and both disputing parties lose to some extent. Quite civilized really.
And further, as a guess.
A prenuptial that documents prior assets would likely hold. If it stated all income during marriage went to one side only, contrary to the marriage law, I'm not sure what would happen. probably the law would decide in favour of the highest bidder.

This is probably the saddest and most pathetic post I've read for a long time.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 4:56 amSorry to chat divorce, but YTP said, Why?"

Yeah, but, yeah, but.
I was kind of discounting Wendy, because you know...issues.

The post really is a downer and an obvious situation where I live (USA). It's like, I might as well not get married if I don't love my partner.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 5:52 pmThis is probably the saddest and most pathetic post I've read for a long time.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 4:56 amSorry to chat divorce, but YTP said, Why?"

While I'm not sure there's such thing as prenup in Cambodia, I appreciate them being the devil's advocate in this situation.
Hello, If the foreign person is under 50 years old, is the 2500 monthly income requirement still applicable ? can someone confirm or deny?
