A special video this week as I visit the horrifying killing fields.
After the rains it took on an even more gruesome aspect as the rains wash away the earth exposing teeth, bones & clothing. Please do not watch if you are sensitive, I do mean that.

The Choueng Ek killing field was mostly used for high ranking Khmer Rouge who were rounded up in purges. I'm sure most people here have been to that one. There are hundreds of other ones around the country, some unmarked but many have stupas with bones.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
KR cadres and their families too, sometimes even extended family, I'm led to believe.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:34 amThe Choueng Ek killing field was mostly used for high ranking Khmer Rouge who were rounded up in purges. One site I've read of, is the 'Killing caves of Phnom Sampeau' near Battambang, some bones of victims still there, apparently(?)
LL you should write a book. Maybe fiction involving a washed up ex Garda who joins the UN to escape the church but ends up running arms and equipment in Cambodia and marries a local etc.
Or just compile everything that’s in your brain about Cambodia.

I really enjoy Mr B's videos, a few of us usually watch any new ones in the bar.
A couple of other issues were that he said the young executioners were drunk on alcohol and violence. The Khmer Rouge did not drink alcohol, it was strictly prohibited. He also said the tools used to execute them were the original ones. Shortly after the fall of the regime the site was scavenged by locals and all the tools were taken and the sheds on the site were dismantled for materials. The constant use of the word "innocent" for people executed seemed inaccurate too considering he acknowledged that many of the executioners ended up in the graves there too. Many probably were innocent but many were not.

I think what he meant was they were likely innocent of the "crimes" that they were executed for rather than being innocent in general.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 2:30 pmThe constant use of the word "innocent" for people executed seemed inaccurate too considering he acknowledged that many of the executioners ended up in the graves there too. I quite like his videos and am surprised that they get so few views. Rural Cambodia is picturesque and he certainly captures a lot of it.
"Goodness me! Now STD free..."
I'm surprised by the lack of views as well and put it down to it being in the 'travel' forum and I think most folk don't bother reading it. Always look forward to a MrB temple video.

It's probably because there aren't many tourists coming here so there's a lack of interest in the topics.

I like 'em and intend to use some of them for a series of trips. Thanks Mr. B. I'm sure they are much more widely appreciated than you know
