I would think that IDEALLY, you would exit on your old passport, and get a brand new passport outside of Cambodia and enter on that.giblet wrote:I need to get a new passport soon and a new visa at the end of next month, anyway. Is there any reason to not start over with a new ordinary visa instead of extending my current visa? Sounds like wipes the records.cambod wrote:...
Yeah, just leaving and coming back on the same passport and starting the visa process over definitely won't do the trick.OSS 117 wrote:...
Before asking a work permit, it will be wise to start over a new passport with a new entry visa.
I left the country to come back with a new entry visa, it's not enough.

The code for the ordinary visa (misnamed business visa) is E, Tourist is T, diplomatic A, and so on. E Visa is the ordinary/business 25$ Visa delivered at airport and borders, E-Visa is the tourist online visa.Playboy wrote:That is just Khmer bullshit. I asked for the text laws or decree, he asked me to fuck off and leave. That's leaves me empty hands without a legal working permit. I don't know, maybe lawyer next step ?Felgerkarb wrote:Ask for receipts, as the Anti corruption law REQUIRES all Khmer government officials to provide them whenever money changes hands. Clearly the guy is making it up as he goes along. Him telling you to FO shows that you've beaten him and he retreated. Even more confusing is that I have a G visa and do not require a work permit, in fact at a previous company (MNC) they did not believe I did not need one, spent a week trying to get one and then were told they could not have a work permit for me !?!OSS 117 wrote:The code for the ordinary visa (misnamed business visa) is E, Tourist is T, diplomatic A, and so on. I know, it's confusing.

Ha! Classic story of how things work here! Welcome to the REAL Cambodia (your first few visits as a tourist don't count.)OSS 117 wrote:*** UPDATE ***
Last month the HR of my company made the paperwork for my work permit. I had my first work contract in Cambodia the 01 nov 2012.
But the ministry of Labour wanted to fine my company for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The reason was I live in Cambodia with an E visa. It took me a few days to convince them not to fine me for 2010 as I didn't stay one single day in Cambodia in 2010.
The logic was: entry E visa in 2009 = fine since 2009 no matter what.
So I went Tuesday to the ministry of Labor with my HR for them to tell me why my company must pay a fine for all the years I used an E visa.
I explained that I did not work a single day in Cambodia, not even volunteer from day one 2009 to my first contract nov 2012.
No work means I could not apply for a work permit till now. I don't understand why they fine me for something I was not entitled to have...
His answer was I am fined because I have an E Visa. No other reasons. E Visa = fine, no discussions. The texts are clear.
So I asked for the texts. I am happy to pay, please let me see the texts.
The guy left the office to find the famous E Visa Fine law, after 5 minutes he came back and ... asked us to leave.
He can't process the working permit because as I am the only foreigner in my company, we must proceed at the "municipal level".
So back to square one.
What is the municipal level ? Where is it ? I can't go back to the ministry of labour, is there other places to go for a working permit ?
He is obviously smart enough to just turn you away. No loss to him. He has 3 options (4 if he's stupid enough to take your money AND give you a dodgy receipt to hand over to the ACU).OSS 117 wrote:I asked for the text laws or decree, he asked me to fuck off and leave. Yeah, I'm surprised he went there the first time with you to ask for receipts (or maybe he was assuming that when he went with you and an official told you needed to pay you would oblige.OSS 117 wrote:..
But my HR manager is completely freaked out, he wants to go forward and pay (and make me pay back to him) all fines asked. He want’s to go back and beg (yes beg) to pay the fine.

Again, good for you!OSS 117 wrote:I just wrote an email to the Transparency International Cambodia http://www.ticambodia.org/contact.php and the ANTI-CORRUPTION UNIT http://www.acu.gov.kh/en_index.php?4a8a ... 2c30f034=3
If they don't care I'm fined for no reasons and without a receipt, I can't do much more by myself.
