Hi.
Are there any or many jobs in the care sector in Cambodia? or is there a need for experienced care workers in Cambodia, whether that is working in Schools, orphanages or in childcare centres etc,? The reason why i ask, is that I'm becoming disillusioned with life in the UK and i would love to work in South East Asia, I fell in love with Cambodia, especially the Cambodian way of life and the people I met, when i travelled there last year.
I'm currently employed as a Therapy Support Worker/Care Worker here in the UK, I work with clients who have had a brain injury, my clients have learning difficulties and one client has Cerebral Palsy. I work within my clients therapeutic plan, I help them in whatever needs they require, to enable them to regain the life, they lived before their injury, I've been doing my current job for five years now, I have acquired qualifications and certificates of achievement, and below are just a few examples of what I have achieved
Level 2 diploma in Health and Social Care.
Safeguarding children and young people.
Safeguarding adults
Emergency first aid at work.
Level 2 Health and safety.
Infection and prevention control.
Am i right in thinking that most jobs are in a volunteer role, and that it would be beneficial to employ a local Cambodian on cheaper wages than a qualified westerner? Ideally, i would like to find a paid job first (not a high paid job, but enough to get me by) but if at first, I have to volunteer for a long period, then I will happily do that, for me, the longer I'm not in the UK the better. There is nothing more i would like, than to use my skills and qualifications in helping people who need it.
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Kevin.

I think your workload would be too much in Cambodia, especially in Sihanoukville.

Given the state of the health system here I would doubt there would be anything that pays. Unless you got on with some sort of NGO.
I suspect that most care, if any, in this country is provided by the families. It is probably not based on the scientific method.
You might want to monitor Reliefweb for that. http://reliefweb.int/jobs?country=48#content and http://unjobs.org/duty_stations/cambodia (The sites have mainly UN posts but there are NGO jobs. You night want to monitor the neighbouring countries like Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam as well.
An NGO called Handicap International might be worth approaching. Edit: Their international jobs are advertised here. Unless you speak French you can only apply for the ones advertised in English. http://www.handicap-international.fr/emploi
There is also a list of Health NGO's here. That is where I found the Handicap International link. http://hacccambodia.org/ngo_directory
One idea might be to approach some of the Western run Physiotherapy places in Cambodia. They might have a place for you in their practice. Google with keywords Physiothrerapy Phnom Penh Siem Riep Cambodia should get some hits.
You might also find some role as a trainer.
As more Cambodians join the middle class roles might open up for you.
From overseas you can apply for NGO roles. To look locally come out on holiday while keeping your current job. Volunteering might provide a way in. But be careful not to do it with theorphanage industry. Unlike many, you sound like you actually have a health skill that might be more useful than an Arts degree and a Gap year. Handicap International again might be able to give you some advice.
That is all I can think of.

Thank you ever so much, for the information we have kindly sent, much appreciated.
This bit is worth focusing on. Where there are local skills shortages they do need foreigners to come in and get the levels up. If you can't find a paid route in, the volunteer route is the best way of getting a network up and running. That matters as the best way to get a job here is through your network. If all else fails there are many people making a living teaching English so you could fall back on that if cash gets low. Good luck.thepostman2020 wrote: You might also find some role as a trainer.
Am I wrong or isn't that a local British professional qualification lower than a regular secondary school degree such as IB or A-levels or a full vocational diploma , which would be "level 3" in the UK?Level 2 diploma in Health and Social Care.
If so I hate to burst your bubble but I doubt it'd open many doors abroad.
