Hi guys,
My name is Rica from the Philippines, I've worked in Cambodia sometime 2011 for a year doing Liaison work for a project based assignment in Phnom Penh. Last August I returned to Cambodia for a 2 week vacation with my bf. Then I realized I want to transfer to Cambodia, pack all our things and bring our 2 kids with us. So it follows that we need to find work there.
The difference now is that my previous stint there in Phnom Penh was pretty "upscale" as I have worked closely in the diplomatic community and everything was provided for including a villa, an assistant and a driver. Now if I can find a job there, I will have to start from scratch.
I'm not so keen on finding a stable 8 to 5 job there as I primarily work online now doing Digital Marketing and PR. What I'm concerned of is finding a job for my partner who's track record is in the oil and gas industry/construction in the Middle East, which, from my understanding is quite a next-to-zero industry in Cambodia (or I could be wrong).
So to you Cambodian expats, any pointers on how I can start this? Any job openings that you can recommend?

You don't want a stable job here and your husband is next-to unemployable? I'm not really getting your drift. Can you run that by me again?

I worked in Manila last year for a large energy company and hired about twenty people while I was there. I interviewed quite a few Filipino guys returning from the offshore OnG sector and nearly all of them expected to still earn the ludicrous money they had enjoyed. Your husband is going to have to get ready for some sticker shock as he applies in Cambodia. But that's the same for most expats working in Cambodia.
Without knowing anything about his skillsets he could try the following companies :
Comin Asia
Vattanac Property limited
Hong Kong Land
ACH management
Advance Construction
Red Furnesse
Functional Engineering
these are larger foreign owned companies who may employ Filipino staff.
He could also attend Lighthouse functions every month to network.
All the above can be found on Google.
Good luck

RC is right.. expect to be earning considerably less than you would back home..
But here is some thoughts.
Have you calculated your combined living expenses here based on the 4 of you living in a modest house in PP?
If so, would your salary be enough to support you all or do you need that 2nd income stream to survive?
If you can "get by" on your wages then this country is a great place for your guy to try something new with very little risk.. ask him if he is tied to his industry or does he have a "dream job" he has always wanted to try or a business idea he has wanted to give a go?

in the recent past I would have suggested a rotational job in the offshore oil and gas sector in neighbouring Thailand or Vietnam may have been an outside possibility dependent upon experience, but the current cutbacks in Thailand at least have been the catalyst to offload expensive expats and speed up the labour nationalisation of the industry. I doubt it will return to previous levels in the short or longer term as an option.

And at least one PM with an offer for online work not even acknowledged. Which obviously voids said offer, online customer service is for prompt people.
