Finding work here was much easier than I was made to believe.
So far every school I've applied for has said yes and offered me more than I was told on forum/facebook that I'd be offered too, definitely not regretting making the move here.
The highest paying offers I've had so far are from Pannasastra International School, Westline English and Home of English International School.
Has anyone heard of these schools? Any stories about them, be it good or bad?
Anyone heard good/bad things about these schools?
Speaking to some locals last night and again today they said the Pannasastra International School school is in a really bad area and I'm likely to get mugged leaving school one night. Any truth to this?

I looked at the map and it's in the middle of nowhere out on the old Pom Pay Lake area anyway.GaryH wrote:Speaking to some locals last night and again today they said the Pannasastra International School school is in a really bad area and I'm likely to get mugged leaving school one night. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I was supposed to have an interview at Pannasastra International this morning.
I asked for an address for the tuktuk and they emailed me a picture of a map that had only Khmer for the address, no English.
I'm staying in a guesthouse, can't exactly whip out my printer and print the map. Took a picture of the map and showed it to a tuktuk driver who was understandably reluctant to bother trying to read this tiny map on a phone screen. Again contacted the school and asked for an actual address to give the taxi driver, they sent me gps coordinates for google maps which shows a blank street with no street name on it. Again asked the school to just give me an actual street address so I can tell the driver where to take me, no reply.

Navigation 101. Tuktuk drivers can't read maps. Also addresses are practically useless.GaryH wrote:I was supposed to have an interview at Pannasastra International this morning.

Best thing to do is ask them to be available for a phone call in the morning when you are meeting your driver, call them and they can explain directions to the driver.
When you have a grasp of local geography then you can tell the driver the area plus some extra pointers e.g. Near a bridge or near a temple.

Yeah I explained I don't know local geography so I need specific directions.
I still haven't been outside the Daun Penh area where I'm living, BKK1 and BKK3.
Good tip on the asking them to be ready for a phone call, I will definitely do that for the next one.

At my hotel? I did ask them at the hotel if they could help give the tuktuk driver directions, but I'm pretty sure she can't read maps. She got very uncomfortable/embarrassed when I tried to show her the map and asked if she could help me find an address.LexusSchmexus wrote:Why didn't you just get the tuktuk driver to talk to the receptionist?
Showed up for the interview 2 hours late, they still offered me the job. And $100 a month more that what they'd initially told me haha
It's soooooo far out of the way though. I felt really isolated out there

I appreciate you posting your current experiences. I am arriving early next year, so this is very helpful in addition to the other help I have gotten on this forum.
This has been the best one so far in that respect by a long shot.
Encouraging news as well. Good luck and again, thanks for putting up this info.

Can you tell more about pay and schedules? Also, did you take a job, and if so, where?
The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
And, let the games commence!GaryH wrote:Showed up for the interview 2 hours late, they still offered me the job. And $100 a month more that what they'd initially told me haha
