I was offered a really good job position in Cambodia but I have a MAJOR question.
I've seen a lot of mixed up information about the medical exam needed for a work permit. Does anyone know what all is actually checked?
I've been HIV positive for several years and am on anti-viral medication so I'm completely healthy/am sero-negative (meaning, the virus isn't even e in my blood anymore although the antibodies are). I've worked for years in Thailand and they require a medical checkup for my work permit here but they don't check for HIV so it's no problem. I don't want to leave a solid position here if I'm going to run into visa problems there.

I recently had a health check for a work permit.
This year they took a blood sample, last year they didn't.
The whole procedure is still a joke.
1st off your height is very hastily and inexpertly measured, then your chest measurement is quickly taken and you are asked to stand on the scales to record your weight.
Then you go to a window to submit those numbers and your forms, following this you cue up to go into a room to have your blood pressure taken, your ear looked in, and a nurse listens to your heart. Some people are asked to look at a eye-test poster. You are also asked if you have ever had any operations. (I'm just trying to recall everything, I am pretty sure that is what they asked, rather than if you suffer from any Illness or disabilities)
Then it is off to another room to have your finger pricked to collected blood.
One work colleague who went along tried to protest the blood test, asking to speak to whoever was in charge so that the reasoning for the blood test could be explained. She wanted to know why the blood test was being taken this year, and what they were looking for. No one was able or willing to answering her, and she was simply told that it was decreed by the ministry that any foreigner who wanted to pass the health test must give blood. Other people told her the process was clean and hygienic and just to do it and in the end she did.
Not much help you NeverSayDie, but it bumps your thread.
Good luck getting info.

This is no big deal, you pay an additional $50 not to take the medical, several options in doing this but the best way is to use a consultant here is one www.agb-consulting.com

I have a WP and have done a renewal. I never left my premises nor did a medical either time.
I have a LBP take care of this for me. I believe my medical costs $30.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
Just went recently, they took blood as others have mentioned.
New this year is requirement to sign employment contract in the "foreigner management " office in the presence of the official. Or pay to avoid doing it.
Only takes a minute so if you're there no reason to avoid it.
