Apart from all the practical issues, your current job seems to be very challenging. Though teaching 20-30 kids in a very small classroom might be 10 times more challenging. Don't forget, the majority of kids do come to English language school, because they do not know the language.
Teaching English without a degree - the real deal
Just make a degree on photoshop, they don't check.

This thread illustrates perfectly why so few people here respect Teflers.
I have a lot of respect for primary and secondaty teachers in Thailand and Cambodia. A uni. degree and what is it, a 1 month Tefl course will of course help...But from my experieces, anyone with half a brain, the willingness and ability to learn and who like kids can be a good teacher...And being well organized and patient help a lot too.
Having a sense of humour....playing the clown...dancing for your dinner or singing for your supper mentality will also get you a long way in the teaching business.

You’ve pretty much reconfirmed my view patcan. A career with no barriers to entry except half a brain and a sense of humour is not a career to aspire too

so, then, question.
what are my chances in cambodia, given i've done this in vietnam before, for almost an year, successfully (i try to appeal to their curiosity and make things interesting as much as possible) - to the point where some still seek me out or ask if i have friends i can recommend, etc.?
but never did make the effort to take any certificates.

i don't mind taking the tefl certificate, but i can't stand 120 hours of that crap (i know what nouns and verbs, etc. are, ffs)
at the same time, i don't feel comfortable going with a fake photoshop'd cert.

The real/fake certificate is so the administrators of the school have plausible deniability that you can teach, and can charge the parents more.
The fake certificate is a piece of paper that saves you 120 hours of your time and allows you to earn cash immediately. Money well spent if you ask me.
If you can do the job, and have experience don't let a piece of paper stand in your way lol.

can't i do the 40 hour online teaching tefl course and get it over with?
i can get other relevant certs just by doing an exam, but not sure if they'd be internationally recognized.
otherwise, back when teaching in vietnam - apart from this one place in the catholic part of the country where i had to deal with rich spoiled brats and their parents (and after a few days just quit) - everything was pretty good, no complaints.
i had some great teachers back in the day, so applied the same methods they did. try to make it interesting without being a clown... i strongly suspect that my size, being ~2 meters tall and big, also did command some presence, but i am not sure...
cambodia can't be that much more challenging?
