Based on what I have experienced on here its going to be a hellhole. I suppose referring to me in as many nasty degrading terms was helpful? Look back on what you wrote and think about how you would expect me to react.Dedalus wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 8:33 pmI’ve tried to be supportive of you but you have persistently and consistently refused to well-meaning advice from dozens of expats who have spent many years in the country, who have built lives and in some cases careers there.
They are trying to help. You - who have never been in the country - seem convinced you know better. I’m afraid you’re going to come a very bad cropper there Mark. It will NOT be anything like you expect.

Why wouldn’t he be a wheelchair bound network engineer in Siem Reap that learns his 2nd language at record speed and sometimes works, sometimes is retired?
He’s obviously doing his due diligence. I believe him. He will be fluent in Khmer and Mandarin on arrival, will have the most wheelchair friendly apartment, and his newly imported custom Harley Davidson with a little ramp in the back will wait for him on the airport parking lot. Smart will ensure that immigration stamps him in as both retired and employed, just to be sure.
And then everybody on the airport starts clapping their hands as Mark rides off into the dusty, piss stinking sunset, en route to host the party where no twats are allowed.
With one minor exception of his need for a maid minus any sexual connection.
I am so looking forward to the maid.

So its ok for the residents of this board to constantly have a dig at my expense but as soon as i fire a retort the UN is brought in? Balance is what you need try banning/suspending the people who make the cheap shots.MarkinAston wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 8:11 pmMod edit. You have already been warned to stop making abusive and groundless posts. Quit it or you will get canned.
Mod edit. That is not what is happening. You constantly post ranting about everyone on here being 50 cent beer chasing meth heads married to hookers. Many will not notice as I am constantly deleting your abusive nonsense. Members here have given you good advice that you choose to ignore because you somehow know better. Then they get annoyed with your attitude. Sort your shit out or fuck off you miserable tosser.

You seem to take personal offence at anyone who disagrees with you.
Maybe there could be something to learn if the majority of posters are suggesting that what you are expecting will not be your reality. Not just in this thread, in many of the other threads you involve yourself in also.
Or, we are all wrong and you are right. Maybe all of us have had our brains befuddled with our 50 cent beers and bargirl girlfriends. Definitely none of us have led or are leading successful lives or careers here.

Sent you a PM just delete the account as we will never be able to agree, all of this targeted crap about disability etc started with one post about hiring a maid. Its gone downhill from there.
My attitude could have been better but the reception I received was uncalled for and it has descended from there on.
Good luck with the future.
Mark

You’re missing the point. It’s not me you have to convince.MarkinAston wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 7:06 pmAt the level that I work few locals would be involved mainly working across multiple AS in bgp which connect to other carriers in different countries. The documents have be spot on as one single filter/route mistake would blackout a country. Cisco the main provider of lan/wan equipment don't localise language options
(Also don’t be too quick to get into an IT skills dickwaving contest on here, there’s at least a few posters who are at the top of their game too…)

Thanks for the links to SMART I have spoken with them already with a view to meeting up with them in PP
Unless you are some kind of language savant and can pick it up in a few months.
You are being extremely naive in your approach.
I agree with you totally about the language as it is an uphill struggle that I have faced before, hopefully as with other countries most networks don't have any language pitfalls as its all in English. Localised language will be key to my existence and it will take time "Around three years in France" before I reach a level of competence where I can converse in a social/business situation.
Thanks for your concern but i'm sure I will be fine,
You're being too modest. You're a good web developer with a few years experience. Plus you had the benefit of learning from Scoffer, which further enhanced your academic skills.Alexandra wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 8:35 pmSure, I’m a web developer. Here’s a question for others employed here.
Isn’t there a health check as part of the work permit application. If marky mark is working, he’ll obvs need a WP.
How stringent is the WP medical? I think he mentioned before that he lost his leg due to an underlying health issue (I could be wrong).
Anyone know of others who have a disability or severe underlying health issues who have gone thru the WP medical?

Yes the underlying health issue was T1 Diabetes "Its a fucker pay attention to your doctor" So far I haven't experienced any negativity from Govt agencies or potential employers. My leg or lack of it really doesn't effect my cognitive ability it just causes issues with stairs and the occasional maid demanding sex.
I'm not to sure if I will re-enter the workplace I was only looking to avoid becoming stagnant, I would do the same no matter which country I chose to reside in.
However if it doesn't work its of no consequence.

If it took you 3 years for French, a language which shares components with English then I’d suggest you’d be looking at a much longer timeframe for learning Khmer.MarkinAston wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:41 pmផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 8:49 amIt’s great that you are working on the language, but realistically it’s going to take you several years immersed in society to get yourself to a level of language competency speaking, reading and writing where you can compete with locals.MarkinAston wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 10:11 pmWorking on the language thing as we speak! There was no mention of a medical when I got mine, although you’re correct in saying it is one of the official requirements. I don’t know if they’d be more likely to ask if it was someone a little older.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 6:06 amHere’s a question for others employed here.

That said, I don’t know how it is here but in most countries the point of the medical is mainly so that employer knows what they’re getting and the govt know what level of employment protection is appropriate - ie I don’t think you can “fail” it as such. But this is pure speculation on my part.
